Discerning Between Closed Doors and Contended Doors | Acts 12 Inspirational Christian Sermon | John Giftah
Tonight's Episode
When GOD Says “No” vs “Not Yet” | Discerning GOD's Guidance for your lifeIn this message, John Giftah shares a powerful revelation from Acts 12 — how the early church discerned between closed doors and contended doors. When James was killed, the church did not pray for his resurrection because that was a closed door, but when Peter was imprisoned, they prayed earnestly for his release — and GOD opened that contended door. Through this sermon, you’ll learn how to:
- Recognize when to let go of a closed door.
- Persevere and pray through a contended door.
- Avoid confusion and discouragement when facing delays or losses.

Speaker 2: One of the questions a lot of people ask is John,
Speaker 2: how do I know this is a door that is
Speaker 2: closed and I need to learn to move on from it?
Speaker 2: Or is this a door that's a contented door? It
Speaker 2: is closed right now, but I need to fight for it.
Speaker 2: I need to pray about it, and I need to
Speaker 2: stay in faith and God will honor it by opening
Speaker 2: that door. See, I want you to understand. In the
Speaker 2: Book of Acts, chapter twelve, there's a moment when the
Speaker 2: King Herod has killed Apostle James and he is now
Speaker 2: in a place where he has taken apostle Peter, and
Speaker 2: he wants to do the same. So the Bible says
Speaker 2: in verse five that while Peter was in prison, the
Speaker 2: church prayed for him earnestly. See, I wanted to understand
Speaker 2: something here that, you know, the church has just freshly
Speaker 2: seen that there's par in prayer, there's you know, there
Speaker 2: are miracles happening. Jesus raised people from the dead. But
Speaker 2: here's the thing, none of them actually thought about praying
Speaker 2: for the resurrection of James. You think about this, They
Speaker 2: did not pray for James's resurrection, but they prayed for
Speaker 2: Peter's release. Even if you've see in the later chapters
Speaker 2: of Acts, there's a moment when they oppositively raises a
Speaker 2: dead man back to life, which means that resurrection and
Speaker 2: those powerful miracles were still happening those times. So I
Speaker 2: wanted to think about this. What made them realize that
Speaker 2: James was a closed door, but Peter was going to
Speaker 2: be a contented door. So when you think about this,
Speaker 2: when we see about James he dies, Jesus had already
Speaker 2: prophesied about the kind of death, and the thought sure
Speaker 2: that the James and John actually the sons of Gebety
Speaker 2: will actually have. So they kind of knew that, okay,
Speaker 2: things are going to be bad. And you see that
Speaker 2: the church did not pray for his resurrection. The church
Speaker 2: knew this was a closed door, and they started moving forward.
Speaker 2: Whereas when you look at John chapter twenty one and
Speaker 2: in verse eighteen, Jesus speaks to Peter, and Jesus says
Speaker 2: something where in a phrase he says, but when you
Speaker 2: are old, you will stretch out your hands and someone
Speaker 2: else will dress you and lead you to where you
Speaker 2: don't want to go. And verse nineteen says Jesus indicated
Speaker 2: the kind of death that Peter would have which will
Speaker 2: glorify God in a sense. What I wanted to understand
Speaker 2: is there was the word called old, which means that
Speaker 2: there was a word that God had prophesied or spoken
Speaker 2: or a promised over his life, saying that Peter will
Speaker 2: die as an old man. So because of that word
Speaker 2: from Jesus, they knew that this was not the end
Speaker 2: of the story. They knew this was not the closed door.
Speaker 2: That's why they started praying earnestly till that door which
Speaker 2: was closed, opened up and Peter was miraculously released. So
Speaker 2: this is the way I want you to discern between
Speaker 2: a closed door and a contented door. A close door
Speaker 2: is something that you know that God has spoken and
Speaker 2: God has positive in your spirit, knowing that this is
Speaker 2: not going to happen anymore, just move on. Whereas when
Speaker 2: you look at a contented door, you know God has
Speaker 2: promised and shown you visions and you know you need
Speaker 2: to fight against it and you will eventually see that
Speaker 2: that close is going to open up at the right
Speaker 2: appointed time. In Jesus name.
