Faith Doesn’t Mean Being Unrealistic | John Giftah | Christian Sermon
Tonight's Episode
In Daniel chapter 1, Daniel was offered the royal food from the king’s table. But he resolved not to defile himself. What is remarkable is how Daniel handled the situation.
He didn’t simply demand that others believe in his GOD.
He didn’t expect the Babylonian official to operate by blind faith.
Instead, Daniel proposed a practical solution.
He suggested a simple test: give us vegetables and water for ten days and compare the results.
If it worked, they could continue. If it didn’t, they were willing to reconsider.
This moment reveals an important lesson for believers today.
Faith does not mean being unrealistic or disconnected from the world around us. Daniel combined conviction with wisdom, faith with practicality, and spiritual integrity with thoughtful strategy.
In this episode of Fuel for the Soul with John Giftah, discover how Daniel’s approach can teach us to stand firm in our convictions while still communicating with wisdom and understanding.
True faith is not only spiritual — it is also wise.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John GIFTA.
Speaker 2: Hey God, Rishel listench a joy for me to be
Speaker 2: with all of you today on this segment of the
Speaker 2: Fuel for the Soul with John Gifter podcast. And this
Speaker 2: week we've been talking about various lessons that we can
Speaker 2: learn from Daniel chapter one, and I'm going to talk
Speaker 2: to you today on a very important aspect that you
Speaker 2: can see where Daniel is making a resolve that he
Speaker 2: would not defile himself with the royal food and wine.
Speaker 2: And he says that you know, please help inst giving this,
Speaker 2: give us vegetables and water and this is what the
Speaker 2: person the official was in charge, said, but I'm afraid
Speaker 2: that if you're looking worse than the other men, it
Speaker 2: will not be good for me. And worse leven is
Speaker 2: what I wanted to understand, very very important. Not worse leven.
Speaker 2: Actually verse leven and verse twelve. Verse leven is when
Speaker 2: Daniel speaks to the guard, to whom the chief official
Speaker 2: had appointed over Daniels shadrack mischief and I am at nego,
Speaker 2: And he says, please test your servants for ten days,
Speaker 2: give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.
Speaker 2: Then compare our appearance with those of the with that
Speaker 2: of the young men who eat the royal food, and
Speaker 2: treat your servants in accordance with what you see. So
Speaker 2: he agreed to this, and tested them for ten days,
Speaker 2: and verse fifteen days. At the end of the ten days,
Speaker 2: they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the
Speaker 2: young men who ate the royal food. Now I want
Speaker 2: you to understand something, heah. Sometimes when we are firm
Speaker 2: on saying you know what, I'm standing firm on my convictions.
Speaker 2: When I'm going to do what God wants me to do,
Speaker 2: or this is what I need to do, I cannot
Speaker 2: compromise on this, or I need to do it in
Speaker 2: a certain way. This is my conviction, and all of
Speaker 2: these things. What happens is sometimes we go into the
Speaker 2: element of being, you know, in this radical faith or
Speaker 2: in a place of sounding very spiritual and religious, that
Speaker 2: we are forgetting the importance or the aspect of being practical.
Speaker 2: Are you getting what I'm saying. Daniel did not just say, oh,
Speaker 2: you have to trust us, you have to believe in us.
Speaker 2: You know it's going to be fine, don't worry. No,
Speaker 2: what did Daniel say, give us ten days? He was willing,
Speaker 2: He was bold enough to say, let's test this for
Speaker 2: ten days. He gave a practical timeline, he said. He
Speaker 2: didn't say, let's press test this for the next three
Speaker 2: years or a one year. He said, let's test this
Speaker 2: for ten days. You will see the difference. See, sometimes
Speaker 2: you have to understand when you're standing for one your
Speaker 2: convictions and you are digging your heels in and you're saying,
Speaker 2: you know what this is what it is. Sometimes it's
Speaker 2: difficult to convince other people who don't have the same faith.
Speaker 2: You don't have the same conviction. So sometimes we just
Speaker 2: go with the empty theoretical words saying you know what,
Speaker 2: no do you should trust us because we are trusting
Speaker 2: in the Lord, the Living God, God will honor us.
Speaker 2: You know, all those words will fall flat if you
Speaker 2: don't show them visible results, visible fruit. And so Daniel
Speaker 2: was like, listen, you don't have to take a far
Speaker 2: fetched risk on us. Just try and test this for
Speaker 2: ten days and then you can decide if you feel
Speaker 2: that or if you see that you know we are
Speaker 2: not doing better than the others, well, very well, listen
Speaker 2: to you and we will eat the royal food that
Speaker 2: you want us to eat. So Daniel was very practical
Speaker 2: in his approach. He was not over spiritual, like how
Speaker 2: sometimes you know, you see some people they're like over spiritual,
Speaker 2: where they forget the practicality, they forget the protocol, they
Speaker 2: forget the responsibility, they forget you know, certain elements that
Speaker 2: are expected of them, the standards that are expected of them,
Speaker 2: the visible results. Now, for example, if I say, for instance,
Speaker 2: in ministry, right, if I just say, oh, I've been
Speaker 2: doing ministry, like some of you might know this, I've
Speaker 2: been running the ministry for over fourteen years, started off
Speaker 2: from my university days. So I've been doing this for
Speaker 2: fourteen years. If I say I've been doing this for
Speaker 2: fourteen years. But you know, if I just say so
Speaker 2: because I've been doing this for fourteen years, I need
Speaker 2: you know, you to understand that either has reached a
Speaker 2: certain level of standard or expectation. I can't. You'll question
Speaker 2: me on that, you know what I mean, Like you say,
Speaker 2: give me proof. So it's not about the launch doing.
Speaker 2: It's about like, how can I see that? How can
Speaker 2: I see the impact? How can I see the numbers?
Speaker 2: How can I see a visible difference? How can I
Speaker 2: see a visible growth? You get what I'm saying. So
Speaker 2: Daniel was not just saying, you know, just by faith
Speaker 2: trust us, or he was not saying this because God
Speaker 2: will take care and all of those spiritual reasons. He
Speaker 2: didn't just do that. He just said, listen, let's test
Speaker 2: this out in the physical realm for ten days and
Speaker 2: then we will decide. This is a word for some
Speaker 2: of you don't be over spiritual, or sometimes you may
Speaker 2: end up pushing away certain people, or you may not
Speaker 2: get some recognition or opportunities in your workplace, or maybe
Speaker 2: there are certain things that you're waiting away because you're
Speaker 2: trying to be over spiritual instead of being practical. Sometimes
Speaker 2: sometimes you have to understand the system in which the
Speaker 2: world works is different from the system in which the
Speaker 2: word works. And that's why you need to know how
Speaker 2: to balance, how to be practical, how to come back
Speaker 2: and say yes, I trust in God. I know God
Speaker 2: can do this and do that. But for people who
Speaker 2: are in the world, we need some visible proof. So
Speaker 2: let's test this out for ten days. So I challenge
Speaker 2: you today just like Daniel was willing to do this,
Speaker 2: where he said, you know what, let's test this out
Speaker 2: for ten days. Can you be in that position where
Speaker 2: you're practical enough to understand then needs, the expectations, the requirements,
Speaker 2: and be willing to trust in the Lord and test
Speaker 2: things out and be willing to a point where you're
Speaker 2: saying yes, yes, the proof of me trusting God or
Speaker 2: standing from my convictions. This is why I'm telling you
Speaker 2: you can trust me in the other areas of my convictions.
Speaker 2: Can that be your prayer that you would be practical
Speaker 2: and vice like Daniel and not sound over spiritual and
Speaker 2: where the wrong people away from your life? God bless you.
