From Tragedy to Purpose: Finding GOD’s Plan in Bad Breaks | John Giftah | Christian Sermon
Tonight's Episode
The storm you are facing did not come to destroy you—GOD is using it to redirect you toward your divine calling.Continuing our special series celebrating the 6th anniversary of the #1 Amazon Bestseller "Unveil Your Purpose" (and 14 years of ministry), John Giftah shares a powerful message on Navigating Purpose Through Tragedies, Storms, and Pain.
When life blindsides us with unexplainable heartbreak, health crises, or bad breaks, it is natural to grieve and heal. But you must never conclude that your story is over while you are still in the process of healing.
The Apostle Paul at Malta (Acts 27–28): Paul never put the island of Malta on his preaching schedule. Yet when a violent shipwreck occurred, that unexpected storm became the exact divine vehicle that brought him to Malta, leading to healing, revival, and the spread of the Gospel!
From Grief to Impact: The story of how a mother turned the tragic loss of her daughter to a drunk driver into the founding of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), cutting nationwide fatal crashes in half.
If it is not your time to go, the storm cannot end your life or cancel your calling. When you commit your scars and broken pieces to the LORD, GOD will use your deepest pain to make you a powerful channel of blessing in JESUS CHRIST!
🔥 Key Takeaways in this Message:
Honor the Healing Process: Why grieving and healing are essential before stepping forward into restoration.
Uncontrollable Storms: Recognizing that while you cannot control every storm or bad break, GOD remains in control of your destiny.
The Malta Principle: How sudden disruptions and shipwrecks redirect you to platforms you never planned for.
Turning Scars into Channels of Blessing: Committing your pain to the LORD to bring life and hope to others.
📖 Key Scripture:
"Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta. The islanders showed us unusual kindness..." — Acts 28:1–2

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, welcome to this edition of the John Gifter podcast. It's such a joy for me to join you as we step into this new season of the podcast this week as the ministry celebrates its 14th anniversary and also my debut book, Unveil Your Purpose, celebrates its 6th anniversary. So I thought of talking about various things that we can take away from this book. There's a lot you can learn. I really challenge you to check out the book, but I also want to make sure that you take away a few things from this week so that you will be able to step into the fullness of the destiny that God has in store for you as well.
Speaker 2: One of the things I want to talk about is sometimes you may be looking at what life happened to you and you're saying, John, you know what, in this scenario, I don't know if there's any way out for me to actually think about a purpose because this is something so tragic. This is something that you know has led me to a sting of pain maybe you're crying you're still not healed I want to tell you something don't jump or conclude into things while you're still going through the process of healing right this is something that God can do over time as you allow him to heal you through that process because just recently I spoke about an important aspect on the importance of grieving I really want you to go down and check that episode out Because I really believe there is a time for healing.
Speaker 2: There's a place for grieving. Because you cannot allow God to restore and redeem you. And allow you to actually walk in your purpose. Without he first heals those broken areas of your life as well. So... One of the things I want to talk about is how you cannot control the storms that come in. Like sometimes the storm comes in because you made a mistake. Sometimes the storm just happens because life happens, right? Life just happens. You can't control somebody else's action. Sometimes you can't control why the thing happened or something didn't work out and you just...
Speaker 2: you know landed in a big trouble or you maybe you're dealing with the consequence of that trouble or whatever you you don't know why maybe why didn't the break work or why didn't you know this particular thing uh work out for me why did this person walk away you you can't control everything storms can happen because of a variety of reasons right it can be emotional it can be like why did this health crisis come in like you know there are certain things you cannot explain why But what I wanted to understand is that the storm did not come to destroy you.
Speaker 2: The storm came to redirect you towards your God-given calling and purpose. See, when you talk about in the book of Acts, there's a moment when the Apostle Paul is accompanied as a prisoner on a ship and they're going. And they had no plans of going to Malta. But there was a... huge storm the storm was so bad it went on for days and everybody was in a very bad state mentally physically emotionally and finally they get shipwrecked and they are shipwrecked in an island called malta and they go to malta and the apostle paul ends up preaching to people in malta bringing in the good news people getting healed all sorts of things happen here's the thing i want you to understand the apostle paul did not have malta as his preaching schedule.
Speaker 2: He didn't plan on going and visiting Malta, but the storm paved the way for him to go to Malta and preach the gospel. See, what I want you to understand is sometimes I'm not saying God brings the storm. I'm not saying God brings the loss or God brings the sickness. That's not what I'm saying, but God can allow the storm to redirect you towards your purpose. If it's not your time to go, the storm cannot destroy you. The storm cannot kill you. The storm cannot put an end to your calling. So as long as you know that you're walking in God-given calling and purpose, as long as you know that you trust his plan and purpose, where he says, I will fulfill the number of your days.
Speaker 2: I want you to know that even when you face any storm in life, you can be rest assured that you know what? Yes, I'm going through the storm, but I'm going to come out strong. I may go through the fire, but I'm going to come out without the smell of smoke. I know that I can do this because I know the one who's in me is greater than the one in the world. See, that's the thing I want you to understand that the storm did not come to destroy you. The storm came to redirect you towards your purpose. In the month of May, I think May the 3rd in 1980, there was a moment where a lady called Carrie lost her daughter to a car accident.
Speaker 2: And the car accident was because of drunken driving. Now, she lost her daughter. She was in a very bad place. She was broken and hurt. But eventually what she did was she started this initiative and a movement that's pretty popular all through North America and in the United States as well as in Canada. And it's known as MADD, M-A-D-D, Mothers Against Drunken Driving. And this one initiative spread so far and wide that at a time when more people were dying from drunken and substance abuse-related driving, than people who died because of war.
Speaker 2: She was able to use this initiative to reduce the number of deaths caused by drunken driving by half. You see the amount of thing that she was able to do, the level of impact she was able to make in that space. See, the very thing that caused her the pain, she didn't sit back and cry and weep and sit in self-pity the rest of her life. What did she do? She allowed the pain to redirect her towards her purpose. And now can you imagine from a time when more people died because of this drunken driving and substance abuse related driving to a place where where she was able to reduce the number of deaths by half.
Speaker 2: See, God can do amazing things. If you would commit your pain to God, if you would commit your bad breaks to God, if you would commit those scars to God and allow Him to work through and heal you, you can be a channel of more blessing to other people. You can be a greater channel of blessing to those around you. So that's what I want to challenge you guys. Really challenge you to leave a comment if you're checking this out on YouTube or Facebook and share this with someone. And let's try to step in to our God-given calling and purpose.
Speaker 2: God bless you.
