How to Move from Grief to GOD’s Next Assignment | John Giftah | Emotional Healing Sermon Series
Tonight's Episode
When you are busy doing the next thing GOD has called you to do, you will no longer grieve what you lost in the previous season. In this concluding message of the emotional healing series, John Giftah unpacks the final part of 1 Samuel 16:1, where GOD shifts Samuel’s focus from mourning Saul to anointing the next king: "I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem."
It’s natural to grieve, but unchannelized emotional energy will keep you trapped in bitterness, depression, and past memories. When you allow the Holy Spirit to fill you and give you clarity, GOD provides a brand-new assignment that heals your heart and propels you forward.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, welcome to this edition of the Fuel for the Soul with John Gifter podcast. All through this week, we're looking at various aspects on how do we process and deal with the pain that we are dealing with. Like maybe you're dealing with the pain of betrayal or hurt or something that is causing so much of havoc in your life. Maybe you're dealing with sleepless nights. I really challenge you to go back and listen to all the other episodes in the series because I believe there's so much to take away.
Speaker 2: Today, I want to talk about something very important because When you look at 1 Samuel chapter 16, this is a moment when the Lord addresses Samuel and says, how long are you going to weep over Saul? Right. I know it's interesting that we've been able to do the entire series of this conversation. This entire sermon series entirely from the first verse alone. But there's something very important. The Lord is telling him, how long are you going to weep? Because there's a place to weep. There's a place to mourn.
Speaker 2: And at the same time, you know, there's a place where you say enough is enough. And then the Lord is saying, I want you to fill your flask with the anointing oil, which is a resemblance of being filled with the Holy Spirit. And yesterday I spoke about the importance of leaving your environment because the Lord is saying, get going. You can't stay here. Stop staying here. Don't be here because this is a trigger point. This can lead to a very bad place. So you need to get going. And then the Lord is saying, I'm sending you to the to Jesse of Bethlehem.
Speaker 2: I spotted the very king I want among his sons. OK, so here's the thing I want you to understand. The Lord was giving him the next instruction. The Lord was telling him what to do next. Right. So as I told you, once you process the pain, once you allow the Holy Spirit to work through your emotions, once you get to that place where you are not going to be in that trigger point, whichever it is, and you come to that place where you have that clarity to hear the voice of God, the Lord is going to give you the next instruction.
Speaker 2: The Lord is going to say, I want you to do this next. I want you to go here next. I want you to be busy doing this. Because the minute you start doing what the Lord wants you to do, you will stop thinking about and grieving the thing that you lost. You get what I'm saying? A lot of times the reason why people are still grieving is because they have not let go to a point where they fill their mind with a new assignment that God wants them to do. You get what I'm saying? Now, as I've shared many times about how last year was bad because of a mass layoff, I want to tell you something.
Speaker 2: Now that I got a new job, got accustomed to it, started enjoying it, started being grateful for this job, what happened? Now, I'm in a place where I no longer grieve what I lost. in the previous organization. I no longer grieve all the pain that I endured in those seven months as I was waiting for the next job. See, I want you to understand, when you are busy doing the next thing that God wants you to do, you will not still grieve what you lost in the previous season of your life. So today, the reason you may be still grieving is possibly because you're still not hearing God and doing what He wants you to do next.
Speaker 2: See, I remember a moment where there were two kids who came home and they were creating such a havoc in the house. We were telling them, don't do this. Don't touch that. They were trying to climb these things, the showcase. They were trying to, you know, experiment different things. And we were so restless because they were doing so much of trouble to us. Till at one point, my mom found two coloring books and a packet of crayons and gave it to them and said, why don't you sit and color? You know what happened?
Speaker 2: Now they were sitting quietly and coloring. See, here's the thing. They had so much of energy inbuilt in them and that did not have a way to be channelized. The minute we gave them this coloring notebook and crayons, you know what happened? They were able to channelize that energy into it. They were not creating the ruckus that they were creating before. See, that's the same thing with your emotions. As long as there is nothing to do, your emotions start playing a ruckus. They start troubling you.
Speaker 2: They start getting you to wrong places or dark places in your mind. That's where you need to channelize it to use it for the right things that God wants you to do. See, we talk so much about saving time. We talk about saving your... Filling your mind with the right thing and all of that. There's a place for all of that. But there's also a place where you need to guard your emotions. Guard your energy. Because you have that emotional energy which can either cause you to have more pain, sit in depression, sit in worry, look at 27 things, why your life is so bad or...
Speaker 2: you can channelize it with the power of the Holy Spirit to the thing that God wants you to do next. As long as you're filled with doing what is right, when you are channelizing your energy, your emotional strength into what God wants to do over your life or what God wants you to build, what happens? You're channelizing all of that into something that is good. See, this is a reminder to you. Maybe you're still crying over Saul when God is saying, I already gave you the instruction to go and anoint the next king.
Speaker 2: Maybe you're still weeping over what you lost instead of taking the step towards the new thing that I want to give you. Maybe you're still grieving or you're weeping or you're mourning the relationships that didn't work out. Maybe even a decade ago, Instead of being open to the new things or the new people that God is bringing into your life. See, sometimes we look at life from a perspective of this is my point of reference. This is what happened. This was so unfair. This is so mean. This is like the way it has always been.
Speaker 2: But that is the point where you say, God, whatever happened, happened. What do you want me to do next? What is your word for me now? What is the next move you want me to make? And I'm telling you, I remember somebody saying this to me when I was in one of the rock bottom moments of my life. He said, John, the only way out of a rock bottom is to go up the rock bottom. It's to go up. In other words, you can't go back or you can't go down. You can only go up. In other words, if you're in a rock bottom, if you're crying and weeping and you're struggling to come to terms with whatever happened, the only way for you is to go up the ladder, is to move towards the new thing that God wants to do over your life.
Speaker 2: You know, I always love this scripture in Isaiah. We always quote this, but I love how it says in the message version, stop dwelling over old history. Okay, we will talk more in that another segment, but I love how it says, be alert and be present for I'm doing something new. Be alert and be present for I'm doing something new. Maybe this is a reminder for you that You know, maybe you're crying and weeping, but maybe because of that, you're missing out on being alert and being present where you are to receive the new instruction, the new direction, the new word that God wants to give you, the new assignment that God has in store for you.
Speaker 2: So when you do that, you will be in a position to move towards the next thing that God wants to do. over your life. You know, I just want to say a word of prayer. If you're watching, if you journaled with me through this week, I want to pray that even as we are moving, to be honest, this week, we are going to complete 14 years in this ministry. I really challenge you to stay tuned because really, we're going to do something new in the ministry. But I want to tell you something very important here.
Speaker 2: In your life, if you journaled, let this be a new beginning in your life as well. I want to pray and release over you. that you will experience the power of the Holy Spirit giving you new instruction, new assignment as He heals your heart and prepares you for the new. In Jesus' name, I pray. I really challenge you to leave a comment if you're checking this out on YouTube or Facebook and share this with someone. And I will see you back next time. God bless you.
