Win With What You Know | David's Strategy | John Giftah | Christian Sermon
Tonight's Episode
In 1 Samuel 17, King Saul tried to equip David with royal armor before he faced Goliath. At first David tried it, but he quickly realized something important — he had never tested it.
So David removed the armor and returned to what he knew best: his sling, his staff, and five smooth stones from the brook.
To many people, David’s strategy may have looked crude, simple, or unprofessional compared to the armor and weapons of trained soldiers.
But David understood something powerful.
The battlefield is not the place to experiment with something unfamiliar. It is the place to use what GOD has already trained you with.
Even the stones David selected were intentional. He chose smooth stones from the water, stones that were naturally shaped and balanced — perfect for the sling he had mastered as a shepherd.
In this episode of Fuel for the Soul with John Giftah, discover why staying confident in the strategy GOD has prepared for you is often the key to victory.
Sometimes the strategy that looks simple to others is the one GOD uses to bring down giants.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for
Speaker 2: the Soul with jo On Gifta podcast. If you've been
Speaker 2: listening to our recent episodes, you don't noticed that this
Speaker 2: all week we're learning different lessons from the life of
Speaker 2: David from First Timeuel, Chapter seventeen, and today I want
Speaker 2: to talk about one more important thing that really caught
Speaker 2: my attention and I want to take this forward. You
Speaker 2: know I'm reading from the NLT version. Okay, this is
Speaker 2: what happens. So there's a moment when David is trying
Speaker 2: to convince King Saul that he would go and defeat Golaiath.
Speaker 2: If you look at verse thirty eight, then Saul gave
Speaker 2: David his own armor, a bronze helmet and a coat
Speaker 2: of may, and David put them on, strapped the sword
Speaker 2: over it, and took a step or two to see
Speaker 2: what was it like. He had never worn such things before,
Speaker 2: and then he protested, saying, I can't go in these,
Speaker 2: I'm not used to them. So he took them off,
Speaker 2: and he picked up five smooth stores from a stream
Speaker 2: and put them in this shepherd's bag, and armed with
Speaker 2: only the shepherd staff and slaying, he started across the
Speaker 2: valley to fight the Philistine. I wanted to understand something here. Right.
Speaker 2: When you think about David, he is very crude in
Speaker 2: his approach, in the sense that he's more of somebody
Speaker 2: who has fought unofficially. He's not having any credit, he
Speaker 2: is not having any proof assats like. He can talk
Speaker 2: about his strategy. He can talk about what he has done,
Speaker 2: but it's something like, you know, like an amateur doing it.
Speaker 2: It's not something like written on stone. It's not something
Speaker 2: he can say, you know what, I have this professional training. Nothing.
Speaker 2: He's done this by himself. He has seen some output. Yes,
Speaker 2: he's tried to convince King Saul that I have seen
Speaker 2: all of this. But he's the thing. When King Salts
Speaker 2: tries to put in the David in the you know,
Speaker 2: there's the armor and all of that, David is not
Speaker 2: able to handle it. So David just puts them off
Speaker 2: and then he goes with what works for him, what
Speaker 2: he's comfortable. See, this is the thing I wanted to understand.
Speaker 2: Sometimes you have to go with what you are comfortable with.
Speaker 2: You have to go with the tools and the strategies
Speaker 2: that God has already thought you and he keipped you.
Speaker 2: Because see, maybe later on David could have learned how
Speaker 2: to use the armor, how to use the sword, and
Speaker 2: all of these things. But right now he just took
Speaker 2: up the opportunity based on what was available to him.
Speaker 2: Sometimes they talk about even musicians, right if even if
Speaker 2: you're going for a musical concert or if you're going
Speaker 2: for a competition, they say, always go with the instrument
Speaker 2: that you practiced with, Like even though it's the same
Speaker 2: instrument in the sense of it's the same keyboard, or
Speaker 2: it's a guitar or a violin, But they always say,
Speaker 2: you know, go with the one that you're comfortable because
Speaker 2: you're used to it. Like sometimes you you you worked
Speaker 2: with something and now the guitar is just seeming a
Speaker 2: little off, or you know, there's something is off like,
Speaker 2: so always is best to go with what you have
Speaker 2: practiced with, you know what I mean. It's it's it's
Speaker 2: even with getting a license, they generally say this. You know,
Speaker 2: if you have practiced using a certain vehicle, go with
Speaker 2: that for getting your license test as well. So on
Speaker 2: a similar note, I want to share that you know,
Speaker 2: sometimes when an opportunity like defeating a Colaith comes in
Speaker 2: your I want you to just you know, like make
Speaker 2: sure that you don't you know, at that moment is
Speaker 2: not a moment for you to test something new, you know. David,
Speaker 2: he could not say, okay, fine, let me test the sword,
Speaker 2: let me try how it feels in the armor. Like
Speaker 2: he gave it a shot and then he realized this
Speaker 2: is not for me.
Speaker 1: He knew it.
Speaker 2: He was confident in his own strategy. And even there
Speaker 2: it says that you know every detail is there for
Speaker 2: a reason, right. It says he picked up five smooth
Speaker 2: stones from a stream. Understand something here. He didn't just
Speaker 2: pick up random stones, right because you see, normal stones
Speaker 2: on the ground could just be you know, like rough,
Speaker 2: and they would not be as smooth and polished as
Speaker 2: a stone in a stream. Okay, So even in that,
Speaker 2: he was cock sure of what he was doing and
Speaker 2: he stuck to it. People are gonna laugh and walk.
Speaker 2: What is this guy doing. He's trying to defeat this
Speaker 2: giant who's having this big I mean, he's a giant
Speaker 2: in its in himself, and he has all this training,
Speaker 2: and he has all of this experience, he has all
Speaker 2: of these weapons, and this kid he is going with
Speaker 2: a sling shot and five stones, and he's also going
Speaker 2: to a stream to get the stones, because the stones
Speaker 2: in a stream are more polished, are more you know,
Speaker 2: like proper in shape, so they actually help hit the
Speaker 2: target better than a stone on the ground, you know
Speaker 2: what I mean. So David was cocksure on his strategy
Speaker 2: and he doubled down on that instead of trying out
Speaker 2: something new. So this is a message for some of
Speaker 2: you that, you know, if you are praying for a
Speaker 2: medical breakthrough or whatever, and when an opportunity like defeating
Speaker 2: a goliath comes, you need to be sure on doubling
Speaker 2: down on the strategy that you're comfortable with doubling down
Speaker 2: on what worked for you in the past, because that
Speaker 2: is not a moment for you to try something new
Speaker 2: or test something new, Because this is a moment for
Speaker 2: you to say, you know what I'm gone for with this,
Speaker 2: which for me, it may be crude, It may not
Speaker 2: be effective in the in the in the in the
Speaker 2: way it looks, it may not look professional enough. But
Speaker 2: this is what I am confident with the skill, the experience,
Speaker 2: and the and in the talent that God has given
Speaker 2: me in the past. You know what I mean. You
Speaker 2: know He has given me and so I'm going to
Speaker 2: use the experience of the past to use it for
Speaker 2: the advantage of this present opportunity. Are you getting what
Speaker 2: I'm saying? So this is the lesson I want you
Speaker 2: guys to take it forward, right like instead of you know,
Speaker 2: like I've come across people, they get a opportunity, they
Speaker 2: want to try something new. See, there's a place for trying,
Speaker 2: there's a place for all of that. But when the
Speaker 2: time comes when you can hit the opportunity like hitting
Speaker 2: a goliath moment, that is not the moment for you
Speaker 2: to try something new and fail. You know, there's a
Speaker 2: moment when you need to be more confident and double
Speaker 2: down on the strategy that God has helped you this
Speaker 2: accessful in the past, because that's the key for you.
Speaker 2: And even in that moment, he didn't just say, okay, fine,
Speaker 2: everybody's looking. I mean, let me just pick up a stone.
Speaker 2: He was clear that he was going to pick up
Speaker 2: a stone from a stream. He was clear on what
Speaker 2: he was going to take, and in that he was
Speaker 2: doubling down on his strategy and he was able to
Speaker 2: get the result that he was hoping for. So there's
Speaker 2: a place where ultimately the victory comes from the Lord.
Speaker 2: Where there's also an important thing to note that the
Speaker 2: victory comes when we partner with the Lord in doing
Speaker 2: what we are called to do in accordance to what
Speaker 2: God has already prepared us with. And that's how we'll
Speaker 2: be able to see the victory. All right, God bless
Speaker 2: you guys, and I'll see you very soon.
