Abraham vs. Nahor: When the Call Doesn't Match Your Reality | John Giftah | GOD's Will Sermon Series

0:45 Speaker 2: Hello everyone, welcome to this edition of the Fuel for the Soul with John Gifter podcast. All through this week, we are looking at various lessons we can take away from the life of Abraham revolving around the topic of the call of God. Today, I want to talk about one important aspect on how when you talk about the call of God, there's always going to be an element of contradiction. Because when God called Abraham, he said, I'm going to make you the father of many nations. In fact, at one point, God even changes Abraham's name to Abraham from Abraham and said, you're going to be the father of many nations, father of multitudes.

1:19 Speaker 2: But the Problem was, he struggled to have even a single child. Okay, but there's something that many people do not know about. When you look at Genesis 22, from verses 20 onwards, all the way up to verse 24, it talks about another brother of Abraham called Nahor. Many people do not know about Nahor. But one of the things that many people are not aware of is that Abraham's own brother Nahor had 12 sons in total. Okay, and this is mentioned all the way from Genesis 22 verses 20 to verse 24. Why am I talking about this?

1:58 Speaker 2: Right? Here's the thing. He had eight sons through one and his wife and four through a concubine. But here's the point I want you to understand. Nahor did not have a call from the Lord. Nahor did not have any promise from the Lord. Nahor was just not even in the faith, so to speak, because Abraham was the one who moved when the Lord called him. But Those in the household of Terah were actually moon worshippers. So Nahor probably was not even in the faith. He was a heathen. But here's the thing. A person who did not have a call had 12 children, whereas a person with a call struggled to have one child.

2:42 Speaker 2: Can you think about this? Nahor did not have a call to be the father of many nations. He did not have a promise from the creator of the universe. Yet he had 12 children whereas Abraham had a call from the Lord. Abraham had a promise that he would be a father of multitudes, father of many nations. yet he struggled to have a single child. Today, you may be looking at your life and feeling like that. You may be saying, John, people who don't even have that call, people who don't even have that faith, people who don't even belong to the Lord in that sense, People who don't even have the promise from the Lord for them is so easy for them.

3:27 Speaker 2: They are able to soar high. Whereas I have a promise. I have an encounter. I have the promise from the Lord. I have God leading me, guiding me. And I've taken so many steps of faith in the way God has been guiding me and leading me. And in the midst of all of that, I feel like I am nowhere compared to somebody who was just soaring high. do you feel like that i want you to understand that's one of the aspects of how when you talk about the call of god it feels like a contradiction you know when the lord told me that he wants me to start an international ministry i had a supernatural encounter that's that went on for over eight hours an amazing encounter and And the Lord said, start an international ministry.

4:16 Speaker 2: And I took the step of faith and I started. And this September, we're going to be finishing 14 years in the ministry. And I was thinking that people who don't have an international call or who have never had the kind of encounter that I had, people who just started off by just like, oh, I just feel like starting a ministry or something online. And they just went viral and then just saw their ministry take off, I used to feel like, oh my gosh, it feels like a contradiction. You're saying international ministry, you're struggling to have the numbers even on a local scale.

4:52 Speaker 2: You're saying you are going to have an international ministry. And to be honest, except for one time last year, I have not traveled outside of India to minister yet, right? So for the last 14 years, it feels like you call yourself international ministry. and you are not even local you're not even national you know what i mean like it feels like a contradiction it feels like oh my gosh god did i hear you wrong am i just dreaming too much god what is happening People who don't have that international call are going international.

5:27 Speaker 2: People who don't have that kind of an encounter, their ministry is exploding and taking root so quickly. Whereas I've been praying, I've been taking steps of faith. I've gone through so much of opposition. I have gone the extra mile, the spirit of excellence. And I've been faithful in every step along the way. with so many thousands of episodes of podcasts and YouTube and TV and socials and everything and also traveling and ministering and all of this. But God, where am I compared to those people who are literally soaring high?

6:01 Speaker 2: But that's where I want you to understand something very important here. The promise of God, the call of God is not determined by how quickly or the way God is going to show up in your life. It's not dependent on the numbers. It's not dependent on how the fruit looks like in the outside instantly. Because I want you to understand. Yes, Abraham struggled to have one child. Whereas his brother without a call was able to manage to have 12 children. But one thing is, like I said before, many of you may or may not even have heard the name Nahor.

6:42 Speaker 2: may not have even known that Abraham had a brother who had 12 children. You may not have even known. Nobody goes around saying, I'm going to be of the tribe of Nahor. No one says that. Everybody says, you know, I'm going to be a son or a daughter of Abraham. I am a son or daughter of Abraham. Thousands of years later, people still connect with Abraham, not Nahor. Thousands of years later, people say, Father Abraham, not Father Nahor. Thousands of years later, Abraham is the patriarch of our faith.

7:21 Speaker 2: See, that's what I wanted to understand. At that point, it felt like a contradiction. In the natural, it looked like Abraham was a fool. In the onset of looking at it, it felt like, Abraham, you're a failure. You're not even able to get one child. And you're saying you're the father of many nations. I'm sure Nahor is the father of many nations. He has 12 children, Abraham. But can I tell you something? God doesn't see things the way we see. God is not limited by what you see in the natural world.

7:55 Speaker 2: In the natural, you may be struggling to get one child. In the natural, you may be struggling to get one job offer. In the natural, you may be struggling to get one spouse or a relationship. In the natural, you may be struggling to get one offer or that contract. But can I tell you something? When you just say, Lord, I know it feels like a contradiction, but I trust you. You know what is going to happen? At God's appointed time, when God shows up, When you look back over the shoulders, like with Abraham, you will say, look, people are not saying I'm the son or daughter of Nahor.

8:35 Speaker 2: People are not connecting themselves with Nahor. People are always saying, I'm a son of father Abraham. I'm a daughter of father Abraham. On a similar note, when God shows up in your life, it's going to exceed expectations. and you look at it from the hindsight, you will realize that it was worth the wait. Your life, the inspiration, it's worth it. Now, one of the things I was thinking about the other day was, like I said, I've been having this call of ministry and I'm not seeing the kind of fruit or results I would hope for or I've been hoping for in the last 14 years compared to other people.

9:24 Speaker 2: And I was like, That's true, yes. But then there's two kinds of faith, right? It's one thing to have faith when everything is going fine, right? Oh, I know people for whom their very first video went viral and the ministry took off. Or they got opportunities easily with Connects and they are traveling around and ministering. Praise God for that. Maybe the favor of God. But the fact of me posting consistently... The fact of me being committed to what I'm doing despite not seeing the fruit that I'm hoping for that's also faith you know what I mean the fact that you're not seeing the fruit and you're still having the faith to go about it that's also faith and I believe God honors such faith God will honor you If you're staying firm, despite the contradiction, despite everything, despite being mocked and ridiculed, if you will hold on, God will honor you.

10:32 Speaker 2: God will build your legacy and you will be like Father Abraham. You know, maybe one day I believe God will, you know, like people would say, oh, you know what, the faith of Abraham, like how people talk about the faith of Abraham. I believe someday people might say, The faith of John, you know, the faith of Emmanuel, the faith of so and so, whoever it is. That's what God wants to say over your life.
