Faith Needs Strategy | Lessons from David and Goliath | John Giftah | Christian Sermon
Tonight's Episode
In 1 Samuel 17, David steps forward to face the giant Goliath. Many people remember David’s faith, but they often overlook something important.
When David spoke to King Saul, he didn’t just say, “Trust me.”
He explained clearly how he had previously defeated lions and bears while protecting his father’s sheep.
David had experience.
He had strategy.
He knew what he was doing.
His confidence wasn’t vague optimism — it was faith built on preparation and past victories.
Today many people pray for their “Goliath moment” — a breakthrough, a miracle, or a great opportunity.
But when the opportunity comes, they may not be ready with a plan, a strategy, or the preparation needed to handle it.
In this episode of Fuel for the Soul with John Giftah, discover how David’s example teaches us that faith and preparation must go together.
Pray for victory — but also be ready when the opportunity comes.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for
Speaker 2: the Soul of John gift Of podcast where I'm going
Speaker 2: to talk to you today on an important thing that
Speaker 2: we can take away from the life of David from
Speaker 2: First Samuel, chapter seventeen. I want you to understand this
Speaker 2: is a moment when David is going to give food
Speaker 2: to his brothers and he comes to know that Goliath
Speaker 2: is taunting the armies of the Living God. And what
Speaker 2: happens at this time he says, you know what, I'm
Speaker 2: going to fight this. I'm just paraphrazing this because I
Speaker 2: want to get quickly to the point, because I want
Speaker 2: to share something with you. When King Saul is saying
Speaker 2: this to David and he says in verse thirty three,
Speaker 2: he says, don't be ridiculous. There's no way you can
Speaker 2: fight this philistine and possibly win. You're only a boy
Speaker 2: and he's been a man of war since his youth.
Speaker 2: But verse thirty four, I want you to understand something
Speaker 2: very important verse thirty four and verse thirty five so powerful.
Speaker 2: He says, I have been taking care of my father's
Speaker 2: sheep and goats, and when a line or a bear
Speaker 2: comes to steal a lamb from the flock verse thirty five,
Speaker 2: I go after it with a club and rescue the
Speaker 2: lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me,
Speaker 2: I catch it by the jaw and club it to death.
Speaker 2: Now I want you to understand something, and he goes
Speaker 2: on to say, I've done this for both lion and
Speaker 2: the bear. Now here's the point. I wanted to understand
Speaker 2: that a lot of Christian's miss right when we say
Speaker 2: how can you handle this opportunity? How can you be
Speaker 2: sure that you know when you take the step of faith,
Speaker 2: you're going to see the result, How can you be
Speaker 2: sure that this is what the Lord wants you to do?
Speaker 2: This is stupidity. It doesn't make any sense. You don't
Speaker 2: have any plan in hand, you know. I want you
Speaker 2: to understand. David did not just say, oh, come on,
Speaker 2: you need to trust in the Lord. Oh come on,
Speaker 2: you need to have more faith. He didn't say, oh,
Speaker 2: I know my God will not let me down because
Speaker 2: I've been praying, I've been looking up to the Lord.
Speaker 2: He didn't say any of that. You know what he
Speaker 2: said he said something that is so important. He said,
Speaker 2: you know what, this is what I'm going to do.
Speaker 2: I'm going to, you know, go after that with the
Speaker 2: club and rescue the lamb, and if the animal turns
Speaker 2: on me, I'm going to catch it by the jaw
Speaker 2: and club. You do that. Now, it may not make
Speaker 2: sense to you and your when you just read it,
Speaker 2: but it just daunts on you that, you know what.
Speaker 2: David knew what he was talking about. He was not
Speaker 2: talking just theory. He was talking about the practical steps
Speaker 2: in how has done this and how he plans to
Speaker 2: execute this opportunity. I wanted to understand something here. He
Speaker 2: was not just blindly saying, you know, what, Oh, I
Speaker 2: trust in the Lord. You've got to trust in the Lord. Oh,
Speaker 2: you know what, I know God will not hurt me down.
Speaker 2: God is faithful, God is good, God will do this.
Speaker 2: You know he didn't. I know, he ultimately said, you
Speaker 2: know what, it is the Lord who's going to do this.
Speaker 2: It's the lot who us had done it. He always
Speaker 2: ultimately gives out all glory and honor to the Lord.
Speaker 2: But on a practical sense, David was rooted in reality.
Speaker 2: He did not just vaguely say something. He gave the
Speaker 2: strategy that he used and which worked for him in
Speaker 2: the past, and he says that this is a strategy
Speaker 2: I'm going to use because I know it worked in
Speaker 2: the past, and I know that God will give the
Speaker 2: victory using the same strategy today. See, I want you
Speaker 2: to understand it's not enough to just say, oh, you
Speaker 2: know what, just trust in the Lord, or who just
Speaker 2: have faith or just you know, like in a very
Speaker 2: theoretical manner. You know, David thought through, he knew what
Speaker 2: he was talking about. He had a practical strategy in hand.
Speaker 2: See my question to you is if you f you're saying,
Speaker 2: you know what, I'm praying that the Lord will do this,
Speaker 2: I'm asking the Lord to do this, or I am
Speaker 2: I want others to believe in my vision and all
Speaker 2: of these things. My question is, all that is great,
Speaker 2: but on a practical note, the person who's listening to you,
Speaker 2: he may not have the same spiritual you know understanding
Speaker 2: like you do. But they may not have the same
Speaker 2: kind of you know visions from God, encounters from God,
Speaker 2: or the same spiritual wavement. For them, all they can
Speaker 2: understand is practical thought. And if you don't have something
Speaker 2: practical and solid and relatable and with a strategy in hand,
Speaker 2: they're not going to pay attention to you. You've got
Speaker 2: to come out of that religious boat and get into
Speaker 2: the strategy today. My challenge is if you've been praying
Speaker 2: for a miracle breakthrough, or you're praying for a moment
Speaker 2: like David was able to defeat Goliath, my question is
Speaker 2: are you prepared with the strategy in hand? I want
Speaker 2: to ask you, how are you going to handle this?
Speaker 2: How are you going to take the step? How am
Speaker 2: I going to see the fruit? How is this going
Speaker 2: to work out in your life? Do you have a
Speaker 2: ready made strategy? Are you having already made procedure that
Speaker 2: you can inculcate or is it just going to be
Speaker 2: blind trust? This is only going to be Oh, come on,
Speaker 2: you know what, Whatever I do, God is going to help. No,
Speaker 2: David was very clear on what he was talking about today.
Speaker 2: My challenge is, if you've been praying for a miracle,
Speaker 2: breakthrough or whatever, or if you're praying for an opportunity
Speaker 2: as well, or you're praying for the right people to
Speaker 2: support and stand with you, I challenge you to pray
Speaker 2: and make sure that you are clear on your strategy. Now,
Speaker 2: what are the things that makes it very clear that
Speaker 2: David was not lying about saying that he defeated the
Speaker 2: lion at the Bear was because he had a clear strategy.
Speaker 2: For example, when I go to an interview right for
Speaker 2: a job and I say I've worked on a certain tool,
Speaker 2: they test me and say, okay, how do you handle
Speaker 2: this tool in this kind of first scenario? How do
Speaker 2: you what are the features available in this tool? Now,
Speaker 2: if I just said in a lying manner that you know,
Speaker 2: I know this tool, but if I've not worked on it,
Speaker 2: if I don't know how the interface looks, if I
Speaker 2: don't know how the features are, I may not be
Speaker 2: able to answer do you know what I'm saying. Because
Speaker 2: I worked on that tool, I'll be able to answer
Speaker 2: and say, this is what you got to do. This
Speaker 2: is a step, this is the feature, this is the application,
Speaker 2: this is what you can use for this particular result.
Speaker 2: So same way, what gave the proof for David that
Speaker 2: convinced Saul to say, okay, let me allow David to
Speaker 2: go fight the Philistine was him coming out with a
Speaker 2: strategy saying I have done this. If he was vague,
Speaker 2: if he just you know, he said, I know there
Speaker 2: is some way I can just do it and I'll
Speaker 2: let me just figure out something. You know, if he
Speaker 2: was vague, Saul wouldn't have been convinced enough to love
Speaker 2: him to go and defeat Coliath today challenged each one
Speaker 2: of you biz get clarity and get ready with your strategy,
Speaker 2: and then you will see the Lord open the right
Speaker 2: doors at the right time for you. Amen. God bless you.
