From Embarrassment to Elevation: Trusting GOD's Plans Through Past Shame & Trauma | John Giftah
Tonight's Episode
The very thing that caused you pain, trauma, or embarrassment in the past might be the exact vehicle GOD uses to promote you into your divine purpose.Continuing our special series celebrating the 6th anniversary of the #1 Amazon Bestseller "Unveil Your Purpose" (and 14 years of ministry), John Giftah shares a powerful message on Navigating Purpose Through Embarrassment & Past Pain.
Many people hesitate to step into their calling because a past memory, failure, or embarrassing moment left a deep sting. But Scripture shows us a different pattern:
The Story of Joseph: Dream interpretation is what caused Joseph's brothers to hate him and sell him into slavery. Yet, years later in prison, Joseph didn't abandon his gift—and that very same gift of dream interpretation opened the doors to the palace and made him second-in-command of Egypt!
A Real-Life Story: John shares how his brother Jason David faced an embarrassing stage freeze at his very first guitar concert as a child—only for the LORD to prune that gift over the years and turn him into a music minister whose songs now bless thousands worldwide.
When you surrender your painful, embarrassing memories into the hands of the LORD and allow Him to prune and develop your gifts, GOD will transform that channel of pain into a channel of blessing for multitudes in JESUS CHRIST!
🔥 Key Takeaways in this Message:
Don't Run from Your Gift: Why past trauma and embarrassment make us want to avoid the things GOD called us to do.
The Joseph Irony: How the exact thing that got Joseph thrown into a pit became the catalyst for his elevation to the palace.
Pruning Over Quitting: Giving GOD permission to refine your gifts rather than walking away after an embarrassing moment.
Redeeming the Pain: How the LORD turns your greatest humiliation into your greatest platform of purpose.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, welcome to this edition of the John Gifter podcast show. If you're checking out for the very first time, I just want to let you know that we're just setting out a new season of this podcast and so grateful to God for all that's venturing out as we step into the 14th year of the ministry. And it also coincides with the same week of the sixth anniversary of my debut book, Unveil Your Purpose. So this week, we're looking at various lessons that we can look at from this book that I thought, you know, maybe we can revisit and take in line with our life because this I believe there's so much to take away and I really challenge you to check out the book or I also want you to hold on because at some point I'm going to be revisiting various aspects of this book on a practical note of finding your purpose in life as well.
Speaker 2: So today, one of the things I want to talk about is sometimes when we talk about our purpose, we talk about walking in our God-given calling and, you know, whatever the Lord's will is over our life. sometimes we have certain embarrassing moments in the past or something that we struggle to go back to. Maybe there is something that you had, maybe a moment of embarrassment as a child, or maybe you went through a thing that led to so much of trauma. Maybe you're still traumatized by the very memory of it.
Speaker 2: Maybe there are things that you, the minute you look at it or see those memories coming in, or maybe you see those old photos or the smell associated with it or even those music it can all trigger something maybe you're in that place Where you're hesitating to take a step saying, you know what, this is the thing that led me to embarrassment. This is the thing that led me to so much of trouble in the past. So I don't want to have anything to do with it. You know, if that describes you, I believe that this is a word that will really help you break out of it.
Speaker 2: Because I want to talk about one important aspect that is from the life of Joseph, right? When he was a young boy, he had these dreams. And when he started working on interpreting these dreams, what happened? His brothers got jealous of him. They were so mad at him. Even his own dad at one point said, what are these dreams that you're having? You know, his own close ones were not celebrating him. They were not happy for him. They were, in fact, mad at him. They were so jealous. They were envious.
Speaker 2: And they not only stopped with just being jealous, they took the step to try to put an end to him. They tried to put an end to his dream. They said, let's see what happens to his dreams. And they sold him as a slave. They, in fact, initially tried to just put him in a pit and then eventually ended up selling him as a slave, saying, good riddance, you and your dreams done. This is what Joseph's brothers did. Right. So the fact that he had this heart of, you know, getting these dreams and trying to interpret the dreams is what landed him in trouble.
Speaker 2: Right. If he had just kept his mouth shut, if he had said, you know what, I got these dreams, whatever it is, and kept it to himself, he wouldn't have shared it with his brothers. You don't never got into trouble. Right. But the fact of him getting the dream and interpreting the dream is what led him into trouble. Now, the minute you get into something like that, what would you do? You would say, I don't want to have anything to do with dreams. I don't want to have anything to do with dream interpretation because this is what landed me in trouble.
Speaker 2: This is what put me in a very bad spot. But that's not what Joseph did. In fact, years later, when he's in the prison, he's in charge, and he hears about two people, a butler and a cup batter, and the baker and the butler, I think, right? So when they had a disturbing dream each one of the nights, what happens is Joseph hears them and sees that they're in trouble, and he says, let me interpret the dream for you. You see, this Saint Joseph, who... got into trouble for dreams and its interpretation was not in a place where he was like you know what dream interpretation is what led me into trouble i don't want to have anything to do with it that's not what joseph did he saw that somebody was in need he still went ahead worked on his gift and what happened eventually long story made short that dream interpretation is what opened the door for him to go to the palace where he gets to interpret the dream of the Pharaoh and he is now made the second in command of Egypt, the most powerful nation in the world at that time.
Speaker 2: Now think about this. The same thing that landed Joseph in trouble promoted him to the palace. Can you see the irony of it? If he had not worked on what God had given him despite the failure of the past, he would have never... taken the throne where he became the governor of Egypt you see sometimes you may be hesitant to take a step saying this is the thing that landed me in trouble I don't want to have anything to do with this is the thing that landed me in embarrassment I don't want to have anything to do with it but what if that very thing is going to catapult you into the next level of your destiny what if that has a act as a guidepost for you towards the purpose that God has in store for you.
Speaker 2: One of the best examples I can think of is none other than my own brother Jason David. I'll probably put out the link to his YouTube channel in the description. He has released multiple songs including his new song that came out about a week or two ago and this song crossed over 6k views in about a day and We were like celebrating it. And at that point, I remember something very important that probably when he was six or I don't know what age, but many, many years ago, maybe 18, 19 years ago, I remember when he was going for these music classes.
Speaker 2: And as part of that, he was learning to play the guitar. And while he was learning to play the guitar, they had a like a mini concert for all those who are learning under this school of music. where they're going to perform whatever they learned. And it was a paid concert or something like that many, many years ago. And he had prepped for it. He was excited about it and all of that. But the minute he went on stage, what happened was he was so mesmerized with the crowd, he forgot what he had to play.
Speaker 2: He played it in a very terrible manner. He forgot, you know, the flow was gone. It was so... embarrassing for him and for us because we were the ones taking the photos uh standing in the front but but just think right at the end of the thing the person in charge came and said oh you gotta practice better next time i'm sure he would have felt so embarrassed because he just got this word saying oh you didn't practice well even though he had been practicing so hard and I was really scared about this fact of what if he never goes back into music?
Speaker 2: What if this causes a dent in him that he doesn't want to have anything to do with music? Because he was so frustrated that he didn't take the guitar after that for a while.
Speaker 1: Right.
Speaker 2: But here's the thing. Over time, he forgot about it. started working on his music. He started playing music, his own songs. He started working on them, the guitar, the keyboard. He would different instruments over time. He would keep playing for hours together. Like no one has to put a gun on his head to make him do it. He would keep doing it. And now after so many years, he's releasing his second song. That just starts becoming a blessing to thousands of people within no span of time. You see, the thing that led him in trouble, the thing that put him in jeopardy, the thing that caused so much of embarrassment actually turned around to be the channel of blessing to multitudes.
Speaker 2: That's what God did in the life of my brother. That's what God can do in your life as well. He is a God who can use the thing that led to embarrassment, the thing that led to jeopardy, the thing that is a sting of pain from the past. If you would commit it into the hands of God and if you will allow him to prune it, if you would allow him to work on it, if you would allow him to perfect everything which concerns you, you know what's going to happen? That channel of pain is going to be channelized by God to be a channel of blessing to multitudes that's what God did with my brother that's what God did with Joseph and that's what God wants to do over your life I really challenge you to share this with someone and leave a comment if you're checking this out on YouTube or Facebook and let's try to step into the calling that God has in store for us God bless.
