Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for
Speaker 2: the Soul with jo On Gifta podcast. It's such a
Speaker 2: joy for me to be with you as even we
Speaker 2: continuing the series. We've been learning various lessons from the
Speaker 2: incident of Jesus coming the storm today. One of the
Speaker 2: things I want to talk to you today is phone
Speaker 2: and in the same incident, according according to the Gospel
Speaker 2: of Luke as well as the Gospel of Mark. First thing,
Speaker 2: let us look at gospel according to Luke, and I'm
Speaker 2: reading from the Nalty version. This is what it says
Speaker 2: in verse twenty three. As they sailed across, Jesus settled
Speaker 2: down for a nap, But soon a fierce storm came
Speaker 2: down on the lake and the boat was filled with
Speaker 2: water and they were in real danger. Understand something, This
Speaker 2: was a real, big problem, and I really challenged you
Speaker 2: to go back to understand the reality of the situation.
Speaker 2: This was not exaggeration. This was not just panic. This
Speaker 2: was a real danger. They knew what they were saying
Speaker 2: when they said that we were drowning, we are going
Speaker 2: to die, right, This was not exaggeration. This was real problem.
Speaker 2: And one more thing I want to remind you if
Speaker 2: you see in the Book of Mark as well, it
Speaker 2: says the same thing in verse thirty seven, but soon
Speaker 2: a fear storm came when they started out in verse
Speaker 2: thirty six, verse thirty seven s is us storm came soon. See.
Speaker 2: I wanted to understand something very important here, right. I
Speaker 2: think I shared this in I think one of the
Speaker 2: episodes recently that the journey across would have took them
Speaker 2: around three hours, let's say two and after three hours, right,
Speaker 2: And if you say three hours, what does soon mean?
Speaker 2: Like the storm didn't come after maybe after an hour?
Speaker 2: And a half or after two hours or while they
Speaker 2: were almost reaching the journey. No, like the storm came soon.
Speaker 2: The Bible is saying. That's why I wanted to emphasize
Speaker 2: that it's not just mentioned in one of the gospel's,
Speaker 2: but two of the gospels mentioned that word soon, okay,
Speaker 2: very soon, a storm came very soon, which means, let's say,
Speaker 2: let's assume like it says that, especially in the gospel
Speaker 2: according to Luke, it says that they're starting out. Just
Speaker 2: think of it practically, right, like they're starting out. Then
Speaker 2: Jesus settled down for and a half that's probably maybe
Speaker 2: ten to fifteen minutes after the journey, like, okay, guys,
Speaker 2: let me take some rest. He goes and he wants
Speaker 2: to take a nap. But the word soon a fear
Speaker 2: storm came means maybe, just maybe. I mean, I think
Speaker 2: in a journey of maybe two hours or three hours,
Speaker 2: soon could not be after one hour, after two hours, right,
Speaker 2: it would have been something like maybe within thirty minutes
Speaker 2: of their journey starting, right, maybe in thirty minutes or
Speaker 2: thirty five minutes is when this storm would have come. Soon.
Speaker 2: It came, it came soon, right, Why I'm trying to
Speaker 2: emphasize this is that you know, when they started the journey,
Speaker 2: Jesus says, let me go and take a nap, and
Speaker 2: then soon the storm comes. Right, So, I'm trying to
Speaker 2: help you understand that Jesus would have slept for hardly
Speaker 2: maybe ten to fifteen minutes, by which the storm has stum. Okay,
Speaker 2: why am I saying that I told you in one
Speaker 2: of the episodes that Jesus was not woken up by
Speaker 2: the storm. He was not woken up by the people screaming,
Speaker 2: He was not woken up by the tossing of the
Speaker 2: waves and all nothing. He was woken up only when
Speaker 2: the disciples ran and woke him up, saying, hey, Jesus,
Speaker 2: we are going to drown and we're going to die.
Speaker 2: Right So, which means that Jesus was in deep sleep.
Speaker 2: And Jesus went to deep sleep in just ten to
Speaker 2: fifteen minutes time. I'm trying to help you understand this, right,
Speaker 2: in just ten to fifteen minutes time, Jesus was able
Speaker 2: to have deep sleep. Think about it, right? Why am
Speaker 2: I sharing this? A lot of few, including myself, so
Speaker 2: many times we struggle to have sleep. I'm thinking, honestly,
Speaker 2: even last night, I think it took me around like
Speaker 2: an hour or more than two hours. I was not
Speaker 2: getting sleep. I was like, God, I'm not getting sleep.
Speaker 2: I'm tired, but I'm not able to sleep. Imagine like
Speaker 2: we need to be getting good sleep to be productive
Speaker 2: in life. We need to have good sleep so that
Speaker 2: our sleep cycles help us to effective in whatever we
Speaker 2: are called to do. So, you know, today we are
Speaker 2: living a time when there's so much running in our minds.
Speaker 2: Maybe you want to sleep, you're lying down physically or tired,
Speaker 2: but mentally you're still on you know, right, running running, running, running, running.
Speaker 2: You're not in a mental risk. So what happens is
Speaker 2: you're not at sleep. You're not getting that good sleep,
Speaker 2: the deep sleep that you need to get. But you
Speaker 2: see from Jesus that in just ten minutes he was
Speaker 2: able to get into the face of deep sleep that
Speaker 2: he had to be woken by the disciples. He was
Speaker 2: not in just like oh, you know, casual sleep. He
Speaker 2: was in deep sleep. If he was in casual sleep,
Speaker 2: he would have woken up. He would have woken up
Speaker 2: when he heard the commotion, when he saw that wind
Speaker 2: goes tossing, he would have no he was in deep
Speaker 2: sleep in just ten minutes or fifteen minutes. Make me
Speaker 2: think about this, guys, like I want you to understand this.
Speaker 2: So this is a word I want to pray for
Speaker 2: and release over each one of you, roading myself because
Speaker 2: this is something that I'm praying for, especially because we're
Speaker 2: in a time where maybe worries and anxieties are causing
Speaker 2: us to not get sleep, or maybe there are lifestyle
Speaker 2: changes that need to be made. Like one of the
Speaker 2: things that I need to be better disciplined act is
Speaker 2: you know, people typically say avoid the blue screen before
Speaker 2: you sleep, like avoid the phone, the cat's laptop and
Speaker 2: all these things, maybe at least for an hour before
Speaker 2: you sleep. But for me, it's a struggle because I'm
Speaker 2: managing a work and the ministry posting, and then I mean,
Speaker 2: like it's not easy. I must have struggling in that
Speaker 2: area and pray that God will enable me to get
Speaker 2: that balance. But I pray over each one of you.
Speaker 2: Maybe there are lifestyle changes that you need to make.
Speaker 2: Maybe put off your phone in a different room when
Speaker 2: you go to sleep, avoid using the phone for the
Speaker 2: next one hour before you sleep, or maybe you're just
Speaker 2: doom scrawling or maybe you're just watching something on Netflix, know,
Speaker 2: every night, and I know people who do that, like
Speaker 2: every night they have to watch a movie or a
Speaker 2: serial for hours together, binge watching. And probably those are reasons.
Speaker 2: Or maybe you're having unhealthy food habits. And see, I
Speaker 2: pray that God will give you the grace to make
Speaker 2: the changes that require so that God would can bless
Speaker 2: you with good sleep like Jesus. See, I want to
Speaker 2: share a few more scriptures with you. If you look
Speaker 2: at Psalms one seven, verse two, it says it is
Speaker 2: in vain that you rise up early and go to
Speaker 2: go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil,
Speaker 2: for God gives his beloved sleep. In one of the translations,
Speaker 2: it says, sleep is like a gift for you. Okay, Now,
Speaker 2: sometimes I mean we are toiling. We are, like, you know,
Speaker 2: rising up early, you know, like you know, putting in
Speaker 2: effort and effort and anxious toil. And toil is not
Speaker 2: from God, right, See, hard work is from the Lord.
Speaker 2: But toiling came because of the fall. Right, we're not
Speaker 2: called it till we're called to work hard. Right. Here's
Speaker 2: the thing. So you rise up early and then you
Speaker 2: go to bed very late. You're having no balance of life.
Speaker 2: But God is saying that is not going to help you.
Speaker 2: But when you trust in the Lord, what happens. He
Speaker 2: will give his beloved sleep. Okay, if you look at
Speaker 2: Proverbs three, verse twenty four, this is what it says.
Speaker 2: When you lie down, you'll not be afraid. When you
Speaker 2: lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Your sleep will
Speaker 2: be sweet. Psalms four, ards eight. In peace, I will
Speaker 2: lie down and sleep. See, I want to pray over
Speaker 2: each one of us that the Lord will grant us
Speaker 2: could sleep, that we will have the right rhythm of
Speaker 2: life when we operate from the place of rest and sleep.
Speaker 2: When we lie down, we will have sweet sleep. It's
Speaker 2: not we lie down and then we are rolling on
Speaker 2: the bed waiting for or as the opportunity to sleep,
Speaker 2: or we lie down and we are like reading when
Speaker 2: we'll we sleep. No, in preace, I will lie down
Speaker 2: and sleep. When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Speaker 2: So I pray that the Lord will bless each one
Speaker 2: of us with that deep sleep and help us get
Speaker 2: that rhythm of life where we balance, so that we
Speaker 2: have good sleep and we are able to be productive
Speaker 2: and fulfill the purpose that God has in store for us.
Speaker 1: Amen.
Speaker 2: God bless you guys. Even though over this weekend, I
Speaker 2: really challenge you to make this intentional step that you
Speaker 2: I know, sometimes weekends can be that moment when you're like, oh,
Speaker 2: you know what, let me put sleep off the radder,
Speaker 2: let me go wind, watch something I want to, you know,
Speaker 2: do this, do that? No, that's all great, you know,
Speaker 2: doing something for fun or something good for a while, enjoyable, create,
Speaker 2: but make it an intentional step to take care of
Speaker 2: yourself and have good sleep. Emmen. God bless you guys.
