Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John GIFTA. Yes, we all go through moments when there are people that we come across who are not able to understand a calling, understand a heart, understand why we do what we do because we have that personal relationship with a lot and I want to share something with you guys, and I want to take this forward and it is found in John chapter twelve. There's a moment when there is this big feast that is given for the honor of Jesus at dinner, and the Jesus is among a lot of other disciples and all the other friends like Lazarus whom we had just raised from the dead, and all of these things.
And at that point the scripture talks about how Mary took a pint of pure nard, a very expensive perfume, and poured it at the feet of Jesus. Now you have to also understand that the same incident is also recorded in the other books, the synopic gospels, like Matthew and Mark, where the name of the person is not mentioned. And there's also a lot of similarities. And you know, according to studies and according to scholars, it is referencing the same incident but different viewpoints. But it is the same thing.
Okay, I don't want to get into the nitty grady of it, but what I want to share is at that point one of his disciples, that is Judas Carrier, who was going to betray him, objected and said, why wasn't this perfume soul and given you all the money to the poor? It was worth the years wages. Is what he says in verse four, verse five, and verse six is so crucial because he didn't say this because he cared about the poor, but he was a chief and as a keeper of the money back, he used to help himself with what was put into it, okay, but just the important thing I wanted to understand.
If you look at the other accounts in the Book of Matthew as well as in the Book of Mark, he talks about how not only Judas careded, but other disciples and others who were reclining along were also objecting to this. They were like, you know, this is not so good. You know, and at this point you have to understand something here Verse seven is so powerful. Leave her alone, Jesus replied, and he goes on to say, it was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you won't have me always.
So on and so forth. Now, what I want you to understand here is this important truth that when this lady was you know, according to this it's talking about maybe and according to other translations the name is not mentioned. But let's look at whoever it is. The truth is this, the principle? Is this? You know? She continued to do what she had to do. She poured in the perfume on Jesus, an expensive perfume that's worth more than a year's amount of wages. And she just poured it on Jesus. You know, the other translations like Matthew and Sorry, the gospels like Matthew and Marktis reference pouring on the head of Jesus, and this translation Book of John is talking about the feet.
But when you look at the commentary, it's just that, you know, different people saw it from different viewpoints. Maybe she she had so much enough that it was it was enough for the head and to the feet. You know, from the top to the bottom, Jesus was anointed by this perfume. And what are you to understand here? It is this important truth. She didn't stop doing that to explain herself. She didn't stop doing that to prove herself. She didn't say, hey, guys, you don't understand. I'm doing it for Jesus.
Hey, guys, you don't understand this is my wish. She didn't start a quarrel or an argument. She continued to do what she had to do. Jesus spoke on our behalf and said, leave her alone. What I want you to understand is there are certain things you can speak. There are places for that, and there's a place for all of those things where you need to open your mouth as the Lord leads you in all of those things. But there's also a place where you need to understand where you stop speaking, you do what you're supposed to do, or what you're called to do, or where your heart is, and continue to do the thing that you're supposed to do, and let Jesus speak on your behalf.
The lady didn't stop and prove herself. The lady didn't stop and say, hey, Jesus, look what they're saying. Or the lady didn't stop and say, hey, you know what, this is so bad. You know this is me and you guys are doing this to me. No, what you have to understand is that Jesus spoke, not the lady today. This this is a principle. It's a simple word. But I want to remind you guys that you know what, you don't have to go and prove yourself to people. You don't have to find, you know, make people like you.
You know, if they don't, if they you don't really care about you, they would come and try to understand what you have to say. But some people are going to pass comments about you, not because they care about you or the care about the truth. They just don't like you. They don't want to know about the truth. All they want is to pass comments about you. You don't have to listen to them, you don't have to worry about them. You don't have to waste your time on people whose matter or of opinions don't matter.
Just do what you're supposed to do. The Lord will speak up for you. The Lord will vindicate, and thus the word of assurance to each one of yours. You know, even in my life have said I shared you so many times, whether it's in my personal walk with the lot, or even in the ministry, or certain decisions that I make with my life. Other people may not understand. They're like, you know, you should do this way or that way. You know, but but you know what, it's your personal account with the Lord. And that's exactly what mainly had and other people did not understand, and they were passing comments.
You keep doing what you're supposed to do. Like Jesus was talking about the same incident, and Jesus said about this lady, and he said, you know, wherever the gospel is being preached, this lady and the deeds will be preached along. That's the blessing. You have to understand that where you do what you're supposed to do, God will take care of the vindication point of view. You don't have to worry about vindicating. God will do it because He suggested a loving father. Amen, God bless you. You've been listening to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
