0:46 Speaker 2: Hello everyone, welcome to this edition of the Fuel for the Soul with John Gifter podcast. All through this week, we're looking at various lessons we can take away from the life of Abraham, predominantly revolving around the topic of the call of God. Here's the thing I want you to understand, very important, right? We've been talking about, especially in yesterday's episode, I spoke about how God does not give you all the details, but there's also another flip side to understanding an important aspect with regard to the calling.

1:13 Speaker 2: You have to understand that when you look at Genesis 12, verse 1, God tells Abraham, I want you to leave... your native country, leave your father's family, your relatives and go to the place I will show you. And when you look at verse 7, when he reaches Canaan, God is saying, this is the land I'm going to give to your descendants. This is the promised land. Okay. Now, first things first, how did Abraham exactly move towards Canaan? Right? Like it feels like of all the places he could have gone anywhere else.

1:45 Speaker 2: Why did God say Canaan? you come to the right place like how did god lead him without telling him that this is where he had to go right this is an important aspect i want you to remember But when you are actually thinking about it, you also realize something very important. Many people do not realize this, that if you look at the previous chapter in Genesis chapter 11 verse 31, that is a moment where Abraham's father Terah, remember something here, Abraham's family, the Terah and all of these people, they were actually moon worshipers.

2:17 Speaker 2: They were not worshipers of the true living God. They were not even in the faith, so to speak.

2:23 Speaker 2: And here's the thing. It says that he took his son, Abraham, his daughter-in-law, Sarai, and his grandson, Lot, and moved away from Ur and he headed for the land of Canaan. Look at this. He headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there. Think about this. Canaan is the promised land, right? That's what God says. This is the promised land when you look at Genesis 12, verse 7. But when you look at Genesis 11, verse 31... A man without a call, a man who was not even in the faith, a man who did not even know the things of the Lord, the commandments of the Lord or did not have a relationship with the Lord.

3:16 Speaker 2: A man called Terah who was a heathen, he started moving towards the very place of That was the promised land. Have you seen this? Are you able to understand this? Are you able to understand? How did this man recognize that that was the promised land? Why was he drawn towards the promised land? Why was he drawn towards the same place that God was eventually going to give as the promised land when he did not have the faith? He did not have the promise. He did not encounter the Lord. He did not have any word from the Lord.

3:53 Speaker 2: can you think about this right and when you look at uh the history uh of this place like for example canaan was somewhat like if you were to look at some in today's context it's like A very promising place, like how you look at America. Oh, that's a very promising nation. You know, people love to strive to go to America, right? Like more on that side than on the vice versa. Like nobody or very few people may say, oh, I'm leaving America and going to a country like India or Kenya. right but somebody in India or Kenya would say oh I'm gonna leave this place and go to America right you get you you understand the context here right on a similar note Canaan was like America Canaan was like the promised land the the thing that everybody loved so the question comes did Abraham also just fell for like oh this is the promised like this is what I love this is what everybody cherishes I want to go there why Are you able to understand?

4:53 Speaker 2: This is where I want you to understand that just because you are naturally inclined to go somewhere, just because you're naturally having the natural inclination towards something or the natural instinct to do something or go something is not wrong in itself. It could actually act as a guidepost towards your calling. Because a man without the call, a man without the faith, a man without God was also inclined to go to the same promised land as a man who had the call of God over his life. So I want you to understand very important here.

5:36 Speaker 2: When you look at your natural instinct, what is it that you're drawn to do even if no one forces you to do? No one called Tara to go towards Canaan, yet he went.

5:49 Speaker 2: No one called him. But yet he went. This is a message to you guys. What is it that you're drawn to do that no one has called you to do? Like no one is forcing you to do. You are just drawn to do. Like ever since I was young, I used to write stories with morals. I used to imagine being on television and preaching in crowds. No one forced me. No one called me to do it. It was my childhood wish or dream. But when I... had that kind of a desire. Like Abraham, God encountered me. And what happened? God called me into it.

6:23 Speaker 2: And today we are seeing the fruit of that. Authored multiple books, seeing the podcast ranking of the charts, doing all of these things, traveling and ministering. So what was once like, you know, a natural instinct actually guided me towards the call of God over my life. What was a natural instinct for Terah to go towards Canaan was actually a guy telling Abraham, why don't you move towards Canaan? And when he moves to Canaan, then God says, this is the promised land. Now you may have this question.

7:04 Speaker 2: Oh, if that is great, then why do I need God? If I can automatically know that this is the promised land, whether I am in the Lord or not, whether I have faith or not, Like, Terah could identify the Promised Land as much as Abraham without even having faith or having an encounter from God or call of God. If that's the case, then why do I need God? This is where you see how sometimes people who don't have faith, people of other faiths or people who are of the heathen background, they are more successful than Christians because they've identified their region of Promised Land.

7:45 Speaker 2: They follow their natural instinct.

7:50 Speaker 2: And today that is where Christians miss. They think, oh, natural instinct, I should not follow. I should wait on the Lord for what He wants me to do. And they get stuck in mediocrity. But today my challenge is don't be like that. Get to that place where you're saying, you know what? I'm going to... If God is leading me into something, if there's a natural instinct for me to do something, God... I don't want to just do it by myself like Terah. See, that's another point. Terah tried to move towards the same Canaan, but he stopped in Haran.

8:26 Speaker 2: See, when you try to do without God, you may know which is the promised land and try to move, but you cannot reach the promised land. That's the difference between a person who has the faith and a person who doesn't have the faith. A person with a call and a person who's just following the natural instinct. That's where I want you to marry the two. You have a natural instinct. You have a drive towards something. You want to do something, focus on something. Even if no one forces you, you want to take a step in something.

9:04 Speaker 2: Don't just try to do it by yourself like Tara. But commit it to God and say, God, I'm driven to this. What do you want me to do? Marry that natural instinct with the call of God. And then you see that God will do something so beautiful. That is where you will know. You know what? I didn't land in Canaan by myself. But God led me to the right place. My natural instinct and the promised land was the same for me. And that is a beautiful place to be when you realize that what you were driven to do was actually the thing that you were called to do.
