The Secret to Effective Prayer | John Giftah | Christian Sermon
Tonight's Episode
Prayer is one of the most important parts of the Christian life, yet for many believers it can slowly become mechanical or routine. We repeat familiar words, follow patterns, and sometimes pray out of habit rather than deep connection with GOD.
But the Bible gives us an important instruction:
“Pray in the SPIRIT on all occasions.” (Ephesians 6:18)
“Build yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the HOLY SPIRIT.” (Jude 1:20)
Praying in the SPIRIT helps move our prayer life beyond routine and into a deeper place of communion with GOD.
In this episode, John Giftah challenges believers to move away from mechanical prayer and learn to pray in the SPIRIT so their prayer life becomes more powerful, effective, and spiritually alive.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, It's such a joy for me to join you on this segment of the podcast. For the last couple of days, we've been talking about the importance of involving the Holy Spirit in everyday life because you and I are not here just to figure things out on our own, and we cannot live a victorious life by ourselves. And today, one of the things I want to tell you is sometimes we say, you know what, just pray, just interced just do this for the Lord and all of those things, and sometimes what happens is it ends up becoming mechanical.
Speaker 2: It ends up becoming just our own dialogue where it's all about you know, whatever we've been thought, this is how you need to pray. You start with, you know, saying oh God or Heavenly Father, or I mean Jesus taught us how to pray, and then ending saying in Jesus name and all of that. I mean, sometimes we look at all of those nittigrity or looking at all of the protocol or the rupine, the things like for example, we say, you know what, pray before you go to bed, or pray when you wake up, or pray before you have a meal.
Speaker 2: And sometimes we say things which are just mere words without even realizing the reality of it, you know what I mean? And today I want to tell you something right, you know, yes, it's all prayer is ultimately just communicating with the Lord, where you take time to speak to him, you want to take time to hear him speak to you. There's so many things that we can learn about prayer, but today I want to emphasize on the impotance of involving the Holy Spirit even in your prayer. Right, Sometimes we end up doing this like oh, I'm want to pray, just say you know what, I'm going to pray for the next five hours, I'm going to pray for the next ten minutes or whatever.
Speaker 2: And then we just say, oh, I'm going to fast and pray. It ends up becoming ritualistic. It ends up becoming just about the words we use. It's about our eloquence of the choice of words in all of those things. But to be honest, real prayer is actually in a place where we can pray in accordance to the will of God. The Bible says, when we pray in accordance to his will, he hears us, and man he hears us, we have the assurance that He will answer us. And one of the things I wanted to remind you is the Scripture says in Ephesians six eighteen and in Jude one, verse twenty, that you need to build yourselves up by praying in the Holy Spirit.
Speaker 2: If you see in efficiency eighteen, it says praying in the spirit at all times, not sometimes, but all times, praying in the spirit always. And understand something here, there's something about involving the Holy Spirit and pray. You know, I remember back in the day I used to pray for you know, like even for us by us straight and that was praying, I mean interceding. That's that's what I knew. But there was a time I remember I said, Holy Spirit, I do not know how to pray, and teach me to pray. I studied involving the Holy Spirit in my prayer life.
Speaker 2: I started asking him, you leave me in pray, and I'm telling you, my prayer life just went to another level. Ever since then, it's become another level, like when the law just leads me to pray or prompts me to pray. Even today's sermon, for instance, it's not something like, okay, you know what, I'm going to be like, God, please please, I want to know what do I preach today? What do I minister today?
Speaker 1: You know what?
Speaker 2: I have come to a place where even in the it's of a bus schedule. Just to give you context, right, I'm going to I work in a full time corporate job and I'm running the ministry. And on top of that, this week has been super difficult or harder for me because one of my close family members I don't want to mention details on the public note right now, one of my close family members is at the hospital, you know, and there's a lot going on. I mean emotionally, mentally, physically. It's a draining pace and I don't have the bandwidth to you know, like, oh god, you know what.
Speaker 2: I'm not in the mental space to literally go out and you know, like prepare and plan, give out a polished message right on an everyday note. I'm recording these podcasts, right, but can a thlee It is something, you know, as in the midst of all of that, I keep speaking in tounts, I keep praying in the spirit, I keep involving the Lord. I keep being aware of his presence, and I keep talking with him. What happens is, you know, like I don't trying to bring this message. I don't sit in practice. What do I preach about?
Speaker 2: I just like, Lord, you lead me, You give me the right word at the right time. And of course there are seasons I was able to spend more time, and then the revelations were powerful. Today's sermon may not necessarily be something new as a revelation point of view, but the Lord gave me the word and I need it for today to share with you. Guys. See, that is what I want you to understand. Right, You are in a place where you're so synced with the Lord. God will speak to you anytime anyhow. You know, it's not like every time you need to spend four us for a message.
Speaker 2: You know, the Lord understands your situation. You're always in the spirit. You're praying in the spirit, you're walking in the spirit, you're you know, you're connected with the Spirit. What happens is that he will lead you with the right word at the right time. You know, I didn't strive for this message today. I was like, Lord, I'm having like loads of things. I'm spending time in your presence. I need to be my best in my work, I need to be my best with my family. I need to do all of these things as duties.
Speaker 2: But help me, God, and the Lord just leads me. Like even now as I'm recording this, it's like, God, this is the time I have. I need to get this done. Help me, the Holy Spirit lead me. You know, when you have that heart, the Lord knows how to speak to you, lead you, guide you, and he will put the right word in your mouth. He will lead you through the right and the best part for your life. So today this is my challenge that you will make it a commitment to pray in the Spirit at all times. Maybe I'll teach more on how to pray the Spirit.
Speaker 2: You know there are different ways that you can look at, but today just make it your heart and commitment to pray in the Spirit at all times, to be connected with the Holy Spirit and involve the Holy Spirit in your prayer life, and your life will never be the same for the better. Amen, God bless you.
