Walking in Love – Part 5: Understanding Unconditional Love | John Giftah | Christian Sermon
Tonight's Episode
In Part 5 of the Walking in Love series, we begin exploring one of the most powerful and challenging aspects of the Christian life — unconditional love.JESUS commanded us to love others the same way He loved us (John 13:34). This goes beyond emotional love, selective love, or convenient love. It points us toward GOD’s kind of love — unconditional, sacrificial, and constant.
In this episode, we also explore the different Greek words used for love in Scripture and what they reveal about how human love differs from divine love. Ultimately, believers are called to walk in Agape love — love that is not based on feelings, conditions, or personal benefit.
This episode lays the foundation for understanding unconditional love before we move into practical ways of living it out in everyday life.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for
Speaker 2: the Soul with John Gifta podcast. And I'm so glad
Speaker 2: to join you here today because I believe that as
Speaker 2: we're doing the series on how you and I are
Speaker 2: called to walk in Love, I believe that each of
Speaker 2: these segments will be really, really helpful to you as
Speaker 2: you really reconsider are you truly walking in the kind
Speaker 2: of love that God has called each one of us
Speaker 2: to live. I want you to understand something. One of
Speaker 2: the things that I established in the past couple of episodes.
Speaker 2: One of the thing is that you and I are
Speaker 2: called to walk in love. Love should be a lifestyle.
Speaker 2: Loo should be a default mode, and from that should
Speaker 2: everything come out. You know, you're in your ministry, your life,
Speaker 2: your choices, and your you know, decisions, everything should be
Speaker 2: stemming from love. You should be rooted in love. Even
Speaker 2: if you're ministering to people, you should be rooted in love.
Speaker 2: Because yesterday I had a very important word with you
Speaker 2: from John thirteen thirty five. I'm just going to start
Speaker 2: from there and remind you of something, and then I
Speaker 2: want to take you forward. And this is what it says.
Speaker 2: By this, shall or may know your my disciples, if
Speaker 2: you love one another, you know, love is the way
Speaker 2: you need to evangelize, minister to people, to show them
Speaker 2: that you are the light in the darkness, or to
Speaker 2: build the Kingdom of God. To be the true Christian,
Speaker 2: you need to be in love. You need to operate
Speaker 2: in love. Love should be your root or your skeleton
Speaker 2: from which everything stems out. But I want to tell
Speaker 2: you something. If you look at the worst prior to
Speaker 2: verse thirty five. In verse thirty four, this is what
Speaker 2: it says a new commandment I give you. Listen. This
Speaker 2: is not me giving you this commandment. It is not
Speaker 2: just a random person giving but it is Jesus giving
Speaker 2: you this commandment. And listen to what he's saying. He says,
Speaker 2: love one another as I have loved you, so you
Speaker 2: must love one another. This is from the nim version.
Speaker 2: Love one another as I have loved you. You must
Speaker 2: love one another. Listen to this cafe. A lot of
Speaker 2: times people say, oh, I can't love people like the
Speaker 2: way God does. Of course, we are all humans, but
Speaker 2: we should strive and we should have, you know, a
Speaker 2: sense of knowing what is our standard expected of our
Speaker 2: in terms of walking in love. I want you to
Speaker 2: understand very importantly, right, I understand that we cannot love
Speaker 2: the way God loved us or loves us. We are humans.
Speaker 2: We fall, we make mistakes, we have our shortcomings. But
Speaker 2: we should know what is our standard or what is
Speaker 2: our expectation and strive to move in that direction. Instead
Speaker 2: of saying you know what, I'll just be myself and
Speaker 2: I want to live my life the way I want
Speaker 2: to live. But I want to tell you something more
Speaker 2: today because I believe I want to introduce you to
Speaker 2: you know the extent of that love or the cult
Speaker 2: nature of that love, because I want you to understand
Speaker 2: the New Testament was predominantly written in Greek, and when
Speaker 2: you look at the Greek, there are four words for
Speaker 2: the word lau. And I'm sure some of you may
Speaker 2: be aware of this, but if you not, I want
Speaker 2: to remind you of it. And one is how you
Speaker 2: have a compassionate kind of love, the love between you know,
Speaker 2: parents towards children or family members. You know, that's called storage.
Speaker 2: You know, that's compassionate kind of low. There's another love
Speaker 2: that is predominantly between friends or mutual you know, associations
Speaker 2: and all of that. That is kind of like a
Speaker 2: give or take away kind of a love that is
Speaker 2: called a feelure's kind of love. You know you're supposed
Speaker 2: to have like a obligation or you know, you have
Speaker 2: the mutual respect, reach mutual love for each other. So
Speaker 2: that is like a friendship kind of a love, which
Speaker 2: is kind of like dependent in the sense like you
Speaker 2: love me, I love you, you don't show kindness towards me,
Speaker 2: I'm going to keep my distance, you know, kind of
Speaker 2: like you know, kind of that kind of a love.
Speaker 2: And then there's another one which is the erotic love.
Speaker 2: You know, the love between you know, the romantic love basically,
Speaker 2: and the greatest of these is a gapey love, which
Speaker 2: is unconditional love. Now, when you look at the scripture
Speaker 2: John thirteen, right when you look at Us thirty four,
Speaker 2: it says we love because He first loved us, right
Speaker 2: like he's saying, you know, as I have loved you,
Speaker 2: you must love one another. The word love used here
Speaker 2: is it's not filios. It's not give or take away love.
Speaker 2: It's not if they are good to me, I will
Speaker 2: be showing love to them. If not, I don't care
Speaker 2: about them. Right. See, there is a place for boundaries,
Speaker 2: there's a place for you know, not getting into toxic
Speaker 2: things and all of that. We'll talk about it in
Speaker 2: the future, but in today's context, I wanted to understand
Speaker 2: the standard for us here. When the Bible says that
Speaker 2: you need to love one another, and when the Bible
Speaker 2: says that we need to love because God loves us,
Speaker 2: the kind of love that God shows us is what
Speaker 2: is expected of us. That's the standard expected of us.
Speaker 2: And that love is not felios. It's not give or
Speaker 2: take away, it's not conditional, it's not ero take of course,
Speaker 2: even though Jesus is you know, the bridegroom and where
Speaker 2: the bride. It's not supposed to be taken in the
Speaker 2: wrong context, that there are people who teach bad teachings
Speaker 2: like oh, I'm married to Jesus and all of the
Speaker 2: stuff that's that's not right. Uh. And at the same time,
Speaker 2: when when when you look at people saying, you know,
Speaker 2: compassionate love. Of course God is compassionate towards us. Compassion
Speaker 2: flows from him, and out of his compassion he is
Speaker 2: healed people and all of that, the Bible says. But
Speaker 2: but the through is he did not just do it
Speaker 2: out of the compassionate love like you know, feeling pity
Speaker 2: or down or you know, not like that. But his
Speaker 2: love was unconditional because if you see in the original translation,
Speaker 2: when you read the same verse from the original translation,
Speaker 2: what does it say. It's not it's talking about unconditional love. Today,
Speaker 2: my challenge to each one of you, and that is
Speaker 2: one of my voices. Are you operating in that unconditional love?
Speaker 2: Is unconditional love the standard.
Speaker 1: Of your life?
Speaker 2: Are you? Are you loving people without any agenda? Are
Speaker 2: you loving people without any conditions attached to it? Are
Speaker 2: you loving people just the way they are. Are you
Speaker 2: able to accept See I understand. I wanted to understand.
Speaker 2: There's a difference between accepting people you know or of
Speaker 2: their sin and accepting people for who they are. You
Speaker 2: have to understand the two, right. I'm not asking you
Speaker 2: to accept the sin. I'm not saying you know what
Speaker 2: you need to agree with every person's decision, But I'm
Speaker 2: saying you need to accept the sinner. You need to
Speaker 2: show loud to the sinner. You need to show loud
Speaker 2: to the person, even if you're not able to agree
Speaker 2: with them on theological grounds or on their faith, or
Speaker 2: on their background or their decisions or whatever it is.
Speaker 2: Where the point is, you need to show that loud
Speaker 2: to the person because of who they are. They're made
Speaker 2: in the image of God. They are a masterpiece of God.
Speaker 2: They are here for a purpose, and you and I
Speaker 2: need to lead them, guide them, pray for them so
Speaker 2: that they will experience the unconditional love of God. And
Speaker 2: then the Bible says for by this will all men
Speaker 2: know you're My disciples when you have a guppy the
Speaker 2: unconditional love one for another. My challenge to each one
Speaker 2: of you under the sound of my voice today is
Speaker 2: if you have any kind of a relationship where your
Speaker 2: love is not unconditional, where you are putting conditions, or
Speaker 2: you have something maybe some biases in your relationship with them,
Speaker 2: Today is your wake up call. But I'm saying it's
Speaker 2: time for you to let go of those biases. It's
Speaker 2: time for you to let go of your agendas, It's
Speaker 2: time for you to let go of any kind of
Speaker 2: conditional parameters and say, you know what, I'm going to
Speaker 2: choose to love this person because they are made in
Speaker 2: the image of God. And I know that if God
Speaker 2: called me and chose me, and he set out a
Speaker 2: plan for me, even though I have made mistakes, even
Speaker 2: though I don't deserve it, then I should show that
Speaker 2: same kind of love towards other people. And let today
Speaker 2: be the wake up call for you to do it.
Speaker 2: And I challenge you to do it in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen,
Speaker 2: God bless you.
