What GOD Taught Me After Losing My Job | Christian Encouragement During Layoffs | John Giftah
Tonight's Episode
Have you recently lost your job?Or are you worried that you might be next?
If so, this message is for you.
Losing a job can affect far more than your finances.
It can shake your confidence, challenge your identity, create fear about the future, and leave you wondering what GOD is doing in the middle of it all.
Having personally walked through a layoff season, I wanted to share some of the powerful lessons and biblical revelations GOD taught me during that journey.
In this Christian sermon, I share encouragement for anyone facing job loss, layoffs, unemployment, career uncertainty, or a season of waiting and trusting GOD for what's next.
You'll learn:
• Why losing your job does not make you a failure
• How to separate your identity from your employment status
• What Peter's empty nets teach us about failure and GOD's timing
• Why Elijah didn't panic when the brook dried up
• How to discern GOD's direction instead of making fear-driven decisions
• What to do while waiting for the next opportunity
• How to prepare yourself with excellence for the door GOD will open
• How to find peace, purpose, and hope during unemployment
One of the biggest lessons GOD taught me is this:
Losing your job does not mean you've lost your purpose.
Just because a season ended doesn't mean GOD has abandoned you.
The same GOD who guided Elijah, promoted Joseph, and opened doors for David is still able to guide your steps and provide for your future.
Whether you're currently unemployed, navigating a layoff, searching for a new job, or supporting a loved one through a difficult career season, I pray this message strengthens and encourages you.

Speaker 1: Do you ever look around and think, Wow, the world
Speaker 1: is a crazy place and it just seems to get
Speaker 1: crazier and crazier. Ease your mind and take a break.
Speaker 1: This is Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta. We're
Speaker 1: a hub for inspirational Christian sermons, practical keys for Christian living,
Speaker 1: in Christian discussions and interviews. You'll be inspired to live
Speaker 1: the life that you were created for. Your host is
Speaker 1: a top ranking podcaster, best selling author, world record holder,
Speaker 1: aerospace engineer, life coach, evangelist, and founder of John Gifta International.
Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, I just want to quickly address something that
Speaker 2: I believe is so important because we're living in a
Speaker 2: time and age when so many people are losing their jobs.
Speaker 2: Or maybe you're looking at people who are losing jobs
Speaker 2: in your own organization or in your neighborhood, or maybe
Speaker 2: you're someone who lost the job and you're searching for
Speaker 2: another organization or an opportunity. I just want you to
Speaker 2: stay tuned because I believe that I want to share
Speaker 2: certain experiences as well as words from the Word of God,
Speaker 2: because I believe these were things that the Lord shared
Speaker 2: with me and encouraged me through that season, because I
Speaker 2: want you to understand that as much as people just say, oh,
Speaker 2: you know what, Oh you lost the job, don't worry,
Speaker 2: You'll get another one. They just give you these. Don't
Speaker 2: worry about it. You trust God. You should work hard more,
Speaker 2: you should try. You know all of these statements people give,
Speaker 2: and sometimes when you're actually going through that, it doesn't
Speaker 2: really make sense. It actually makes your questions be more
Speaker 2: and it makes you feel more angry and frustrated. And
Speaker 2: because only a person who's going through it will understand
Speaker 2: the depth of the pain that they are going through.
Speaker 2: So I just wanted to share from that perspective. First thing,
Speaker 2: I want to let you know that just because you
Speaker 2: lost your job does not mean lost your life. Does
Speaker 2: not mean you lost God's plan away your life. I
Speaker 2: want you to get this. The Lord we serve, he
Speaker 2: knows how to keep you at the right place, to
Speaker 2: keep that as the source for you for a season,
Speaker 2: and once that job is done, once that assignment is done,
Speaker 2: once that season is over, he's the one who will
Speaker 2: lead you out. So just because you lost the job
Speaker 2: doesn't mean that you've lost it it life. You're not
Speaker 2: a failure. Just because what you did did not work
Speaker 2: out does not make you a failure. God never makes
Speaker 2: anybody a failure. Just because Peter fished all night caught nothing,
Speaker 2: it didn't make Peter a failure. It just meant that
Speaker 2: what he did failed at that point of time, but
Speaker 2: at God's appoint in time, he was able to get
Speaker 2: ned breaking load of fish. So get this, Sometimes what
Speaker 2: you did failed, you did your best, you at the
Speaker 2: spirit of excellence, you went the extra mile, but still
Speaker 2: you lost a job. But I want you to understand that
Speaker 2: doesn't make you a failure. Don't allow that job loss
Speaker 2: caused you to have a dent in your identity. Don't
Speaker 2: think like, oh my gosh, what am I. I'm a nobody.
Speaker 2: I don't even have the ability to keep a job,
Speaker 2: because I still remember the day it happened for me,
Speaker 2: and I'm walking out, and I'll be honest with you
Speaker 2: sharing these things. Okay, I remember walking out and as
Speaker 2: a Christian single, I'm just looking at somebody on the
Speaker 2: other side, and they immediately say, you don't even have
Speaker 2: a job, and how dare you look at this person?
Speaker 2: I was like, just being honest with you. You know,
Speaker 2: the enemy will immediately put you feel like like even
Speaker 2: when I would go to the malls, I would feel
Speaker 2: so embarrassed and a shamed like everybody else has a
Speaker 2: job and you don't, and it's like the pain and
Speaker 2: the embarrassment and the shame associated with it can be
Speaker 2: really really bad. Right. But I want you to understand
Speaker 2: that that's a way where you can say, God, help
Speaker 2: me to place my identity not on my job, but
Speaker 2: on who you made me to be. I might not
Speaker 2: have an assignment right now, I may not have a
Speaker 2: job right now, but that doesn't mean that I'm useless.
Speaker 2: That doesn't mean that I'm worthless, because my worth does
Speaker 2: not come from my job. It comes from being a
Speaker 2: child of the King. Okay, that's the first thing I
Speaker 2: want to say. The second thing I want you to
Speaker 2: understand is when you look at Elijah from First King,
Speaker 2: chapter seventeen, Right, there was a moment when God was
Speaker 2: feeding Elijah through the ravens by a brook. Okay, but
Speaker 2: I want you to understand when you look at verse
Speaker 2: seven essays but after a while the brook dried up
Speaker 2: because there was no rain in the land. So there's
Speaker 2: a moment when he's being fed by ravens and he's
Speaker 2: drinking the water by the brook, and what happens the
Speaker 2: brook dries up. Okay, there are so many revelations we
Speaker 2: can learn from this. I will talk about it in
Speaker 2: other podcast segments and all of that. But this is
Speaker 2: a powerful revelation that the Lot showed me that. When
Speaker 2: you look at verse eight, then the word of the
Speaker 2: Lord came to him and said, a rise, go to
Speaker 2: Zerah Fair, which belongs to sed On, andwell there I
Speaker 2: have commanded a widow there to feed you. So think
Speaker 2: about this. When the brook dried for Elijah, he didn't
Speaker 2: go searching for another brook. He was there un till
Speaker 2: God gave him another word saying, I would want you
Speaker 2: to go to this place where I have commanded a
Speaker 2: widow to feed you. I wanted to think about this.
Speaker 2: See the minute you lose a job, sometimes we're like, oh,
Speaker 2: I lost a job. Let me frantically search for another job.
Speaker 2: I don't care what is the culture, I don't care
Speaker 2: what the situation is. I don't care the package, I
Speaker 2: don't care the location. I need a job. So sometimes
Speaker 2: we walk out under desperation. Prove drying could have been
Speaker 2: a place where Eleja could have said, oh my goodness,
Speaker 2: this brook is right. Let me immediately go search for
Speaker 2: another brook before I don't have any water. What will
Speaker 2: I do? But he did not operate by what he saw.
Speaker 2: He operated by what he heard from the voice of God.
Speaker 2: This is a message for some of you at the
Speaker 2: moment when you lost a job, or you're about to
Speaker 2: lose a job, maybe there's a sign that you might
Speaker 2: lose your job, don't operate under desperation. This is a
Speaker 2: moment for you to say, you know what, God, what
Speaker 2: do you want me to do? What do you want
Speaker 2: me to do in this season? What do you want
Speaker 2: me to take as a step, Maybe take up some
Speaker 2: course that the Lord is leading you to, maybe change
Speaker 2: your domain, maybe change your direction altogether. Maybe the Lord
Speaker 2: is calling in a totally different direction. Maybe if you're
Speaker 2: in the nine to five, maybe the Lord is asking
Speaker 2: you to take a step towards a business that he's
Speaker 2: been asking you to start for a long time. Or
Speaker 2: sometimes it may not be like that. It can be
Speaker 2: God is saying, okay, you know what, you've been in
Speaker 2: the technical domain for so long. Maybe I'm leading you
Speaker 2: to go in the hr domain, just giving you an example.
Speaker 2: Or maybe the Lord is saying, maybe this is the season.
Speaker 2: I want you to just sit and go through these courses,
Speaker 2: be prepared and be equipped, learn to trust me. In
Speaker 2: the season, I'm going to feed you, and at the
Speaker 2: right time, I will open that next door for you.
Speaker 2: Maybe the Lord is going to say that because even
Speaker 2: in this case, Elijah was still not in a place
Speaker 2: where he could be independent. He had to be dependent.
Speaker 2: What happened, God fed through the ravens now is saying,
Speaker 2: you know what, I'm not asking you to be independent now.
Speaker 2: I want you to be fed by this widow. So
Speaker 2: get to that place. Even if you lost your job.
Speaker 2: Maybe this is a beautiful time for you to say, Lord,
Speaker 2: help me to not waste this time. Just help me
Speaker 2: to put my best foot forward and getting the best
Speaker 2: rec you may or getting the best preparation done, that's
Speaker 2: another part. But help me to also use this time
Speaker 2: to grow closer to you, to hear your voice closely,
Speaker 2: so that I will be able to discern your voice
Speaker 2: in the midst of the noise. And after that I
Speaker 2: want you to understand is that you go to that
Speaker 2: place of preparation, you balance, Like I remember when I
Speaker 2: went through the season, I said God, I don't want
Speaker 2: to waste this time. I want to take care of
Speaker 2: my physical body. I want to take care of my
Speaker 2: mental body. I want to take care of my spiritual body.
Speaker 2: I spend quality time with the Lord, went deep on
Speaker 2: my walk with him, learned the scriptures in a deep way,
Speaker 2: and develop my walk with him. And what else did
Speaker 2: I do? You know? I was preparing every interview. I
Speaker 2: made sure that if this was the organization God had
Speaker 2: for me, I would put my best foot for go
Speaker 2: with the spirit of excellence, pray in tongues, and even
Speaker 2: through the interviews, I would just speak and said, God,
Speaker 2: if this is not of you, close the door. Even
Speaker 2: if ninety nine jobs close, it's okay. Let the right
Speaker 2: one open for me. I don't want to waste time
Speaker 2: on the ninety nine that's not meant for me. I
Speaker 2: didn't bother. I stood my ground on the convictions. I said, God,
Speaker 2: I don't want a job that will choke my calling.
Speaker 2: I want a job that will help me push me
Speaker 2: towards my purpose. That's a lesson I want you to have.
Speaker 2: Instead of just moving in desperation, moving out of pressure,
Speaker 2: moving out of you know that panic mode, go to
Speaker 2: that place where you allow the spirit of God to
Speaker 2: lead you, to guide you. Okay, Like I said with Elijah,
Speaker 2: he didn't operate in that panic mode searching for another brook.
Speaker 2: He went to that place where he was led by
Speaker 2: the spirit of God. And that's a beautiful place. I
Speaker 2: challenge you to go. And after that, I want you
Speaker 2: to be encouraged that. You may say, John, but there
Speaker 2: are so many people losing their jobs. How can I
Speaker 2: be toosy? How can I be in a place where
Speaker 2: I will stand my conviction I need some job? But
Speaker 2: can I tell you something, When you wait at the
Speaker 2: right appointed time, God will open the right doors for you.
Speaker 2: See when you think about Joseph in the Bible, right
Speaker 2: there was no position in that time as the prime
Speaker 2: minister equivalent of Egypt. There was no position like that.
Speaker 2: But just for Joseph, God prepared a position for him
Speaker 2: in the palace. See, I want you to understand that's
Speaker 2: the God be sir. Just for one man, God prepared
Speaker 2: the second highest position in the most powerful nation in
Speaker 2: the world of that time, Egypt. You can't make that happen,
Speaker 2: but God can. What I'm saying is when you trust Him,
Speaker 2: when you are being you know in the place where
Speaker 2: you trust the Lord, doing your best, having the spirit
Speaker 2: of excellence and trusting him and just waiting it out.
Speaker 2: I want you to understand it's worth the wait, because
Speaker 2: when God blesses you, he will open a door no
Speaker 2: man can shut. He will convince the right person to
Speaker 2: hire you. How did the Pharaoh believe in Joseph enough
Speaker 2: to say, even though Joseph was only a convict from
Speaker 2: the prison at that point of time, How did the
Speaker 2: Pharaoh believe in Joseph so much that he said, you
Speaker 2: know what, I'm going to make you in charge of
Speaker 2: everything in the kingdom. How did he trust him? That's
Speaker 2: God same way the right manager or the right boss,
Speaker 2: or the right hiring individual is going to trust you
Speaker 2: and believe in you and be convinced enough to say
Speaker 2: you're the one for the job. You're the man for
Speaker 2: the job. God will do that. You don't have to
Speaker 2: you know, like work or strive without strife. You know,
Speaker 2: like a lot of people are just striving now. You
Speaker 2: just be your best. You just be your best. See
Speaker 2: when you think about even David, when he got the
Speaker 2: opportunity to defeat Goliath, he didn't have to prove himself
Speaker 2: to the King Saul and say, hey, please give me
Speaker 2: the chance. What did he He just gave in his credentials.
Speaker 2: You know what, I have defeated the lion and the pair.
Speaker 2: If you are strong on your credentials, you don't have
Speaker 2: to worry. If you worked hard in the previous organization
Speaker 2: instead of playing the fool, you don't have to worry.
Speaker 2: You just asked the Lord to give you the wisdom
Speaker 2: to share the knowledge or put out the information. He
Speaker 2: shared the strategy he used in defeating the lion and
Speaker 2: the back. He said, if the animal came behind, I
Speaker 2: know how to tackle. He gave the strategy. He was
Speaker 2: not just blindly saying, oh you know what, I trust God.
Speaker 2: He knew what he was talking about. See if you
Speaker 2: know what you're talking about. When you know that you're
Speaker 2: done your best, you don't have to worry. You keep
Speaker 2: putting yourself out there, be your best, sharpen your skills.
Speaker 2: At the right op time, God will open the right door.
Speaker 2: He will make sure that he will give you the
Speaker 2: job or the client or the opportunity that will enable
Speaker 2: you to not just get a job, so that you
Speaker 2: will be like, oh, thank God, I have a job,
Speaker 2: and then read the job for the rest of your life. No,
Speaker 2: he'll give you a job that you will look back
Speaker 2: and say, Lord, I thank you for this job. It
Speaker 2: was just I got this. I'm like thanking him every day,
Speaker 2: multiple times. Lord, I thank you for this manager, Thank
Speaker 2: you for the job, Thank you for this. Because you
Speaker 2: know what, when God blesses you, the Bible says that
Speaker 2: the blessings of the Lord will add no sorty to it.
Speaker 2: It's like something that you look at. I'm not saying
Speaker 2: you want have problems, by the way. What I'm saying
Speaker 2: is the Lord knows how to bless you with the best,
Speaker 2: and he will do it for you. I really challenge
Speaker 2: you to think about this, and I'm going to pray
Speaker 2: for you. If you're searching for a job, or if
Speaker 2: there's a loud one who's searching for a job, I
Speaker 2: really challenge you to share this with someone. Make sure
Speaker 2: you share this with someone who needs this encouragement, because
Speaker 2: I believe this is so important for such a time
Speaker 2: as this, God, I want to pray over those who
Speaker 2: are watching listening from around the world, if they have
Speaker 2: lost their job, or they're having that fear of losing
Speaker 2: their job, or if they're in the place where they
Speaker 2: have a loved one who's looking for a job and
Speaker 2: they do not know what to do. I pray that
Speaker 2: this word will encourage them, that these revelations that challenged
Speaker 2: me and encouraged me through that tough season will challenge
Speaker 2: and encourage those people through their tough times. And I
Speaker 2: speak it over them in the name of Jesus Christ,
Speaker 2: that the Lord who opened the door just for Joseph,
Speaker 2: the Lord who opened the door just for me, will
Speaker 2: open a door just for them, in the name of
Speaker 2: Jesus Christ. That they will not just say, oh, I
Speaker 2: got a job and I'm happy. They'll say, look what
Speaker 2: the Lord is done. When I waited against all arts,
Speaker 2: stood my ground on my convictions, the Lord opened the
Speaker 2: door exactly the way I was praying, and he made
Speaker 2: sure that I would step into it and fulfill the
Speaker 2: purpose that He has since so for meet it. In
Speaker 2: the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen and Amen, I
Speaker 2: really can't wait to hear the testimonies that you will
Speaker 2: share it.
