Speaker 1: crazier and crazier. Ease your mind and take a break.

Speaker 1: and Christian discussions and interviews. You'll be inspired to live
Speaker 1: the life that you were created for. Your host is

Speaker 1: aerospace engineer, life coach, evangelist, and founder of John Gifta International.
Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: I just want to ask you this question today. Are
Speaker 2: you in a place in your life where you're struggling
Speaker 2: to get good sleep. You're saying, John, I go to bed,
Speaker 2: but I'm spending hours just rolling on the bed. I'm
Speaker 2: not able to sleep well. The Bible is very clear.
Speaker 2: When you look at Psalm four, verse eight, it says,
Speaker 2: in peace, I will lie down and sleep for you alone, Lord,
Speaker 2: make me dwell in safety. Now. So it says in
Speaker 2: peace I will lie down and sleep. But some of
Speaker 2: you are saying, in peace, I lie down, but I'm
Speaker 2: just rolling on the floor, rolling on the bed. I'm
Speaker 2: just not able to get sleep. Right, You may be
Speaker 2: feeling like that, even if you see in the Book
Speaker 2: of Proverbs three verse twenty four it says when you
Speaker 2: lie down, you'll not be afraid. When you lie down,
Speaker 2: your sleep will be sweet. But in reality it's just
Speaker 2: not sweet at all. And you're like, oh my gosh, John,
Speaker 2: what is happening. What is happening? Well, I want to
Speaker 2: share an important thing with you, and I want to
Speaker 2: take this forward. Okay, when you look at the incident
Speaker 2: of Jesus coming the storm, there's a powerful revelation that
Speaker 2: has got my attention. Okay, just to give you context
Speaker 2: of this situation, right, the crossing of the lake, depending
Speaker 2: on the weather conditions, the wind, and also depending on
Speaker 2: the or the exact route that they were taking, would
Speaker 2: take them roughly an hour to up to even three hours.
Speaker 2: The journey across the lake, which was also the Sea
Speaker 2: of Galilee. All right, So when you look at that incident, yeah,
Speaker 2: I want you to just picture this, okay. So they
Speaker 2: get into the boat. Jesus is telling the disciples, let's
Speaker 2: go to the other side. So they got into the
Speaker 2: boat and started out Verse twenty three. This is from
Speaker 2: Luke chapter eight. All right, it says as they set sail,
Speaker 2: Jesus settled down for a nap. Now, just imagine on
Speaker 2: a practical scale, right, if you're imagining that this old
Speaker 2: journey would take about an hour and a half to make,
Speaker 2: maybe let's say two hours, okay, So as they set sail,
Speaker 2: Jesus settled down for a nap. Maybe the settling down
Speaker 2: could have taken ten to fifteen minutes, talking to people saying, okay, guys,
Speaker 2: I'm going to take this place. I'm going to lie
Speaker 2: down here. In one of the translations, it says that
Speaker 2: he was I think in the Book of Mark it
Speaker 2: says that he was taking a cushion and then he
Speaker 2: was sleeping. His head was on the cushion. So which
Speaker 2: means that you would have, like imagine the practicality, right,
Speaker 2: like ask someone for the cushion, and so this would
Speaker 2: have taken roughly around ten to fifteen minutes, let's say.
Speaker 2: And the Bible says, it's so powerful because I want
Speaker 2: you to understand both the translations in the Book of
Speaker 2: not just translations the two Gospels. In the Gospel according
Speaker 2: to Luke, as well as in the gospel according to Mark,
Speaker 2: it says that as they set sail and Jesus settled
Speaker 2: down for a nap, But soon a fierce storm came
Speaker 2: down on the lake. But soon a fear storm came
Speaker 2: down on the lake. This is from the Analty version
Speaker 2: in the gospel according to Luke. And when you look
Speaker 2: at the gospel according to Mark again it says that
Speaker 2: in verse thirty seven, but soon a fear storm came.
Speaker 2: So if you take that on an average, if you
Speaker 2: think that around a two hour journey, and they started out,
Speaker 2: so in about ten to fifteen minutes, Jesus was settling
Speaker 2: down for a nap. Okay. And when you see the
Speaker 2: word soon, if it said something like after some time
Speaker 2: a storm came, could mean even after one other storm
Speaker 2: could have come, Okay, But the word is very particular
Speaker 2: that soon the storm came. If it said that the
Speaker 2: storm came when they were nearing the destination, that's a
Speaker 2: different story. If the storm came, you know, in some time,
Speaker 2: it could mean maybe after forty five minutes. But when
Speaker 2: you say soon, maybe on a rough scale, in the
Speaker 2: practical point of view, it means that the storm would
Speaker 2: have come roughly around in the thirty minute mark. Okay,
Speaker 2: so just imagine this. In ten to fifteen minutes, Jesus
Speaker 2: would have got settled and he's going to lie down
Speaker 2: or you know, finding a cushion, and in about the
Speaker 2: thirty minute mark is when the storm came. Because the
Speaker 2: storm came very soon, it didn't come later, right, So,
Speaker 2: which means that in a matter of ten to fifteen minutes,
Speaker 2: Jesus got went to sleep. All right. Now, think about this.
Speaker 2: Jesus did not wake up because of the commotion when
Speaker 2: the disciples were screaming and shouting, Oh my gosh, we
Speaker 2: were in real danger. Understand, they were actually in real danger.
Speaker 2: This was not a spiritual storm. This was a real danger.
Speaker 2: I'll talk about that in another segment, but I wanted
Speaker 2: to understand it was real danger. They were in Andy's
Speaker 2: the thing. While they were in that moment, Jesus was
Speaker 2: not working up by their commotion. Jesus was not woken
Speaker 2: up by you know, by the tossing of the waves.
Speaker 2: Jesus was not woken up by you know, the wind
Speaker 2: or the noise or any of that. The disciples went
Speaker 2: and woke them up. If you look at verse thirty eight, right,
Speaker 2: it says the disciples woke them up. Dan Jesus woke up,
Speaker 2: which means that in a matter of ten to fifteen minutes,
Speaker 2: Jesus went into deep sleep. Think about this, guys, Think
Speaker 2: about this. In ten to fifteen minutes, Jesus went into
Speaker 2: deep sleep. Whereas we are struggling to get sleep after
Speaker 2: rolling on the bed for one to do us, where
Speaker 2: is the problem? Think about this. Jesus operated in the
Speaker 2: balance of good sleep. He was having that sleep as
Speaker 2: a you know, like a sweet sleep. The Bible is saying,
Speaker 2: even if you see one more words, right, I really
Speaker 2: love that, just give me a second. I think it's
Speaker 2: found in Psalms seven, verse two it says that you know,
Speaker 2: he gives his beloveds sleep. Okay, In one of the translations,
Speaker 2: it's like sleep is like a gift for the beloved.
Speaker 2: So sleep is supposed to be a gift. Sleep is
Speaker 2: supposed to be a part of are routine in a
Speaker 2: proper balanced way, so that we can function more productively.
Speaker 2: But here's the problem. We struggle to sleep. Whereas Jesus
Speaker 2: was able to go into deep sleep in just ten
Speaker 2: to fifteen minutes. How I wanted to think about this.
Speaker 2: Number one, if you're struggling with sleep. Number one, I
Speaker 2: wanted to look at are you actually mentally at rest
Speaker 2: when you go to sleep or are you carrying something
Speaker 2: with you when you go to sleep, because a lot
Speaker 2: of times we are thinking we are taking rest, but
Speaker 2: we are taking rest physically, but mentally we are not
Speaker 2: taking rest. We're still thinking about what should I do tomorrow?
Speaker 2: What should I do about this situation. We are worried,
Speaker 2: we are anxious. That's why the Bible says, stop worrying
Speaker 2: about anything and start praying about everything. That's why the
Speaker 2: Bible says over and over and over again that you
Speaker 2: need to stop being anxious, do not be anxious, do
Speaker 2: not worry. But we need to cast cares on the Lord.
Speaker 2: Why because the Bible is clear that we need to
Speaker 2: get to that place where we're saying, Lord Lord, I
Speaker 2: don't want to carry this. I want to be free
Speaker 2: mentally when I go to sleep. I want to pray
Speaker 2: and release this over you. Guys that if you're struggling
Speaker 2: with sleep because you're worried, I pray that today will
Speaker 2: be a prey through day, that you will experience freedom
Speaker 2: from the Lord, that you will be able to let
Speaker 2: go of every worry, every concern, and trust in the Lord,
Speaker 2: and be free mentally when you go to sleep. Be
Speaker 2: free mentally when you go to sleep. And the second
Speaker 2: thing is a lifestyle choice. And I think this is
Speaker 2: a big problem for a lot of us, including myself.
Speaker 2: You know, the gadget, the phone, especially when you talk
Speaker 2: about the blue screen on the phone or the gadget.
Speaker 2: We are seeing people who are doom scrawling over and
Speaker 2: over like or getting into social media one re left
Speaker 2: and another, or binge watching shows after shows or episodes,
Speaker 2: have the episodes, or I know people who can't go
Speaker 2: to bed without watching at least one movie every day.
Speaker 2: I mean, see, there's nothing wrong in watching something good
Speaker 2: once in a while, But what I'm saying is if
Speaker 2: that is affecting the balance and rhythm of your life,
Speaker 2: you need to be cautious. If you're not getting sleep
Speaker 2: because you're watching Netflix still three am, it's not a
Speaker 2: God problem. It's a you problem. If you are not
Speaker 2: getting sleep because you're always you know, filling your mind
Speaker 2: with you know, thoughts and worries and concerns, it's not
Speaker 2: a God problem. It's not you know, a societal problem
Speaker 2: or circumstantial problem. It is a you problem. So today
Speaker 2: I really challenge you to introspect. Are there areas where
Speaker 2: you need to make a change in your lifestyle. Maybe
Speaker 2: you need to make this change, like you know what,
Speaker 2: I'm going to keep my phone away from me when
Speaker 2: I go to bed. I'm not going to keep checking
Speaker 2: my phone for the next one hour two hours because
Speaker 2: once the blue scleen affects your mind, you will not
Speaker 2: be able to sleep immediately. Or I'm not going to
Speaker 2: keep you know, thinking about this problem. That problem may
Speaker 2: be work, business, ministry, or oh I need to get
Speaker 2: better results on social media. If you keep thinking about it,
Speaker 2: You're not going to go to sleep. So I want
Speaker 2: to pray that you will be in a place of
Speaker 2: mental peace and mental rest when you go to bed.
Speaker 2: And secondly, you will make the right lifestyle changes. Maybe
Speaker 2: some of you need to start eating early dinner so
Speaker 2: that you won't you eat late and then watch something
Speaker 2: and then it goes on and the time just passes
Speaker 2: and you just lost everything, lost track of time. But
Speaker 2: today my challenge is very simple, that you will make
Speaker 2: the right choices in your lifestyle so that you will
Speaker 2: have a healthy, balanced life, so that through that process,
Speaker 2: not only will you be productive, but you will fulfill
Speaker 2: the purpose that God has in store for you. If
Speaker 2: this encouraged you, helped you, or made you think about
Speaker 2: certain things regarding your life, I challenge you to leave
Speaker 2: a comment share this with someone because this is such
Speaker 2: a needed message for today's generation, especially that we will
Speaker 2: make the right choices and have good, healthy lifestyle, including
Speaker 2: good sleep. Emmen, God bless you guys.
