Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for the Soul of John Gifta Podcast, and I'm so grateful to be with you. In this section, where I've been talking about various aspects, we regard to a very familiar passage found in Isaiah chapter forty three, verse eighteen. Yesterday I spoke to you on the aspect of you know, forget about what's happened. You know, don't allow a bitter season of your life to define the better part of your life. You know, you need to get to that place where you come to terms with the fact that, yes, whatever happened happened.
Speaker 2: But I believe that God's still got a plan for my life, and I'm going to look up to the better things that he has in store for me, and I'm not going to dwell in the things of the past. I want to go on and talk about another aspect because I'm talking to you from the Message version, and I believe there's so much of depth to this because this part is something I really really love. It says, don't keep going over old history. This is Isaiah forty three, verse eighteen from the Message version, don't keep going over old history.
Speaker 2: No, I want to tell you something because there are these seasons in my life, or there are moments in my life. I've gone through this where, you know, the minute I wake up, when I'm having a bitterness towards something or someone, or when I'm hurt or frustrated, what happens the minute I wake up, you know my thoughts are filled with that bitterness. You know, I keep going all over the hurt, the disappointments. You know what somebody said, what they did, or what happened, what didn't work out. You know, that tendency to constantly go after that old history of whatever didn't work out or the things that didn't happen the way it's supposed to happen.
Speaker 2: And today this is a small challenge I want to give you where I want you to check whether the minute you wake up in the morning, when you are in your normal tone or of going about your life, what is the tape recorder in your mind talking about or thinking about? Is it something where you're constantly going after that old history history of the hurt, the disappointments, the people who betrayed you, the people who walked out of your life, the people who took advantage of you, or the things that you tried and didn't work out for you, the time you were embarrassed, time you were going through that so much of a hurt and nobody was there to help you.
Speaker 2: And you're saying, John, how can I ever forget about it? But I want to challenge you today, if you want to move into the new things that God wants to give you, you need to let go of that old history that's replaying in your mind. Maybe you're thinking about something that happened a long time ago. You don't have to worry about it today. You can move on with your life. The other day, I heard this story of a person who went and shared with the pastor saying, you know what, Oh, this person hurt me, this person disappointed me.
Speaker 2: This is so bad. Life is so unfair, to the point where the pastor went on to think that, you know, maybe this man just went through this a while ago. And then he went to ask him when did this happen, and the man said, this happened twenty seven years ago. Twenty seven years ago. You know, here's the thing, right if you if we all go through seasons of hurts and disappointments, we need to go through the process of grieving the loss, grieving and you know, getting the healing that needs to happen. All of that is true.
Speaker 2: I'm not denying that, but you know what happens is it's not something that you're like, you know what, this is what happened, and the rest of my life is bad because of what somebody did or something happened a long time ago. Today, my challenge is there is a point where you need to stop replaying that in your mind, going over that whole history. Probably the other person moved on twenty seven years ago, like and is not even thinking of you. You know, like, what do you want to waste your emotional energy, waste your mental capacity thinking about somebody who doesn't even think about you?
Speaker 2: You know what I mean? What I want you to understand today is yes, what it did was bad, what happened was hurtful, but you don't have to allow that to dictate the rest of your lif life. And that's the challenge I want to leave with each one of you today as we step into this new year. Have this mindset, have this perspective where you have a heart, with all your mind, with all your soul. You want to say, God, I want you to help me. I want you to help me to stop thinking about this over and over and over again.
Speaker 2: And I want you to help me to start expecting the new things that you want to do in and through my life. And I want to just release this word a prayer over you in the name of Jesus. If you are watching or listening to this from anywhere and we are constantly thinking about a negative history from the past and you're not able to think and move forward in your life, I pray that you will experience deliberance right now. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray Amen, God bless you.
