Tonight's Episode
Are you treating GOD’s warnings like a suggestion or a command? In this powerful fourth part of our series on the life of Lot, we dive into the chilling moment in Genesis 19:14 where Lot’s future sons-in-law dismissed his urgent warning because they thought he was "only joking."John Giftah shares a deeply personal and vulnerable story about a season in his own career where he laughed off a divine warning about a job layoff—only to see it happen exactly as shown. Learn why we often choose comfort over truth and how to develop the spiritual sensitivity needed to act when God says "Move."

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta podcasts. All through this week we are looking at various lessons that we can take away from the Life of Lot, especially revolving around Genesis chapter nineteen. To just pay attention to this because especially yesterday's episode was something that I talked about where you look at Lord when he receives the word from the angels saying that this place is going to be destroyed and he needs to take action. The worse Number fourteen says Lord rushed out to tell his daughter's fiancees.
Speaker 2: Look at the response that Lord gives. He rushes to tell the fiancees quick get out of the city. This place is going to be destroyed. But look at the next part of this verse, because this is something I intentionally left out yesterday. I'm going to talk about this. It says, but the young man thought he was only joking, an important message of warning given from the Lord through these angels, saying, listen, listen to this carefully. This is a word for you that this place is going to be destroyed.
Speaker 2: Now take a run from this place. Well, I wanted to understand. I've read this passage so many times, but I didn't pay attention to this part. But just prior to this, just the previous passage, if you just see what happens is that when all these wicked men try to attack these guests, the angels because they don't know that they're angels. They think their guests because they want to, you know, harm them, and they want to do some detestable things with them. There's a powerful thing that actually happens.
Speaker 2: Right, The angels blinded all the men young and old. If you look at verse eleven, so there was a supernatural element that had happened. Probably this information could have spread out, This information could have reached other people saying there was something supernatural that happened. All of these men lost their eyes, there was something these people are serious. But in the midst of that, despite hearing about it, because this was a famous thing happening in this town, despite all of that, these two men thought it was just a joke.
Speaker 2: These two men thought it was just some fun. They didn't take it seriously. My question to you is the Lord is speaking to you. The Lord wants to speak to us. The Bible says that my sheep will hear my voice, we will hear the voice of God. We will hear God's guidance, God's protective voice telling us to do this, do that, don't do this, don't go here, don't talk to this person. God is speaking constantly. But there can only be two responses. One when you hear the word, like how when Lord hear the word, he didn't just take it casually and walked.
Speaker 2: The Bible says he ran. He rushed. He took it seriously. Like if you hear somebody says that, oh there is danger, run and want that person. You will run and want it. There is danger because you take that word seriously. So you can either rush because you believe in the world, you really allow that word to sink in and act on the word, or you can just take it casually, like the two fiancees who just thought, hah, this is just the joke, this is just fun. Because you see, when the two guests came to Lost's house, the news spreads so much that you know that the wicked men in the towns came and attacked so many.
Speaker 2: So do you think for a minute the news about them turning blind would not have reached the two fiancees. Do you think it wouldn't have reached you? See, guys, sometimes God is speaking, God is showing signs. They would have heard the voice, they would have got the news, They would have heard that something has happened. They would have known that this guy is not talking something crazy, there is something significant. But still probably they were so in the word to say. You know, sometimes we can be so caught up in wanting something to be true that we are not willing to listen to the truth.
Speaker 2: You know what I mean, something like oh, I'm in my comfort zone, I have everything fine. I didn't want to pay attention to this. Sometimes we can be so caught up in wanting it to be true then to know what is the truth. And I think that's the most scariest place to be because these men missed a very important aspect of their life or they lost their life actually because they didn't pay attention. So my question is when you hear the word from the Lord, when you hear a divine counsel, are you taking it seriously or are you taking it like a joke?
Speaker 2: Are you taking it in a sense of, oh my gosh, I need to rush, I need to have a sense of urgency, or am I just thinking it's you know what, I'll just be casual about it. Don't be casual. When God is giving you a word that you need to take very urgently, you can't be light about it. And yes, the thing right, Yes, the thing you need to understand. When I was telling you about how sometimes we want the word like for example, one of the reasons why we may not want to listen is because we don't want that.
Speaker 2: Let me give an example because I had this particular job that I really loved and this was just before my major layoff. I shared about this in my previous episode as well, But I'm going to talk about one aspect where two weeks before the layoff happened, there was no sign of it. Everything was so perfect. I was doing my job really well. I was managing eight projects, I was my manager's pet. I was doing exceedingly and everything was so good that the organization was doing so well. There was no reason for a layoff.
Speaker 2: There was no reason for anything to go wrong. And the Lord gave me a vision saying you're gonna lose your job suddenly. You're gonna be asked to leave suddenly. It didn't make sense, and at that point I reacted like the Fiances. I laughed about I remember telling someone I got this kind of a vision. I'm sure this is just just the enemy trying to scam me or something. I didn't pay attention to it. I didn't even pray about it. I was like, come on, man, like I was like the Fiances. See I as much as I'd want to talk to you guys, saying you know what I heard God, and I answered, I obeyed all of those good sides.
Speaker 2: I also want to be vulnerable and sharing moments I missed so that you will relate and understand that the one who's preaching to you is not preaching from a place where he's figured everything out and he's doing everything right, and he's you know, like seeing the best stuff. But there's also someone who has made mistakes. And that's why I'm wanting you guys, don't make that mistake I made. So just like Lot, I was like, you know, instead of being like Lot, I was like the fiances probably. I was like, God, I don't want this to happen.
Speaker 2: Like you know, I didn't even pray about it. I didn't pray against it. He was not asking God for what he was showing me. I was like the fiancees. Ah, you know, I laughed about it, joked about it. I was like them, hoping this will not become truth. Instead of wanting to know what is the truth from God, I was hoping this was not the truth, and that couldn't stop what happened. And just like, just because these men did not take the word seriously, it did not stop the destruction from coming, which destroyed them.
Speaker 2: Sadly, the same way, because I didn't take it seriously does not mean that I could ewaite that layoff.
Speaker 1: It happened anyway.
Speaker 2: But only after it happened, I realized, like in this case, God has shown me. God had conveyed this to me, but I didn't pay attention. Instead of being like a Lot acting on that word with their urgency, I ended up being like the fiances who thought it was just a joke and missed what God was saying. I challenge you not to be like that. I challenge you to be sensitive, to be in a place where you heal to the Holy Spirit and say, God, if you're saying something, I'm going to pay attention. I'm going to take it seriously and I'm going to act with urgency so that just like you saved Lot, just like you know, for me, God allowed me to go through it.
Speaker 2: But God had his ways. God had his plans. But just like he has the best plans for us, he will enable us to step into the fullness of the destiny that God has since to offer us. I really challenge you to leave a comment and share this with someone that will see you back very soon. God bless you.
