Stop Saying “It’s Not a Big Deal” (You Don’t Know Their Storm) | John Giftah
Tonight's Episode
Fuel for the Soul with John Giftah offers powerful biblical teaching and Christian motivation to help you grow in faith and spiritual clarity. In this episode from the JESUS Calming the Storm series, we explore the reality and intensity behind the storm on the Sea of Galilee—and why it was far more serious than it may appear on the surface. What seemed like “just a storm in a lake” was actually sudden, violent, and dangerous.
Through this, we uncover an important truth: we often generalize people’s struggles without understanding their depth. What looks small from the outside may be far more complex and overwhelming than we realize.
Drawing from Matthew 8, Mark 4, and Luke 8, this message encourages you to slow down, show empathy, and resist the urge to offer quick judgments or shallow advice.
👉 You don’t always see the full picture—but GOD does.

Speaker 1: Do you ever look around and think, Wow, the world
Speaker 1: is a crazy place and it just seems to get
Speaker 1: crazier and crazier. Ease your mind and take a break.
Speaker 1: This is Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta. We're
Speaker 1: a hub for inspirational Christian sermons, practical keys for Christian living,
Speaker 1: in Christian discussions and interviews. You'll be inspired to live
Speaker 1: the life that you were created for. Your host is
Speaker 1: a top ranking podcaster, best selling author, world record holder,
Speaker 1: aerospace engineer, life coach, evangelist, and founder of John Gifta International.
Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for
Speaker 2: the Soul with John Gifta Podcast.
Speaker 3: Today.
Speaker 2: In the next couple of days, we're going to learn
Speaker 2: various things that we can take away from the incident
Speaker 2: of Jesus coming the storm. Okay, this is an incident
Speaker 2: recorded in various gospels, in Matthew chapter eight, Looke chapter eight,
Speaker 2: as well as in my Mark chapter four. And we're
Speaker 2: going to look at various things because I always go
Speaker 2: back to the Lord and I say God. I don't
Speaker 2: want to preach the same typical cliche sermons and for me,
Speaker 2: even in my walk with the Lord, I don't want
Speaker 2: the same cliche things like oh, you know what, this
Speaker 2: is it, this is it? You know, like sometimes it
Speaker 2: becomes very cliche. Sometimes it becomes very structured, and it's like, oh,
Speaker 2: I already know this. I always go back to the
Speaker 2: scripture and say, Lord, I want something new, well in spirit,
Speaker 2: I want you to speak to me, a minister to
Speaker 2: me in a personal way. And these revelations are both
Speaker 2: out of that. And I really believe and encourage you
Speaker 2: to pursue the Word of God in a similar fashion,
Speaker 2: so that the Lord will speak to you when you
Speaker 2: turn the pages of the scripture as well. So today
Speaker 2: we're going to look at one of the aspects that
Speaker 2: we can take away from this incident of Jesus calming
Speaker 2: the storm. First things first, is that the Bible says say,
Speaker 2: if you look at math Tu chapter eight, verse twenty three,
Speaker 2: then Jesus got into the boat and started across the
Speaker 2: lake with his disciples. Suddenly a fear storm struck the lake,
Speaker 2: with waves breaking into the boat. Now, first things first,
Speaker 2: I want to tell you sometimes I've heard people say this, John,
Speaker 2: what's the big deal about a storm?
Speaker 3: In a lake. I mean, it's it's a lake.
Speaker 2: After all, we just look at it as oh, it's
Speaker 2: just a lake, right, like, I mean, how big would
Speaker 2: it be? I want to just give you guys a
Speaker 2: little bit of context here, right, this is not an
Speaker 2: ordinary lake. This is this lake was also the Sea
Speaker 2: of Galilee, okay, and mind you, it's not a sea.
Speaker 2: But then it was a huge lake. It was the
Speaker 2: length of it was around twenty one kilometers, which is
Speaker 2: around thirteen miles, and with this around thirteen kilometers or
Speaker 2: eight miles. So it's not like a small pond or
Speaker 2: it's not like a you know, like it's something small.
Speaker 3: Is it is huge okay?
Speaker 2: And so a typical boat ride could take you from
Speaker 2: one to three hours, okay, one hour to up to
Speaker 2: three hours, depending on the wind, the rowing versus the
Speaker 2: sail and the directtion. So understand, like it's not something small.
Speaker 2: It's not like a small boat ride, okay. And it
Speaker 2: was not something shallow as well. It was deep, you know,
Speaker 2: like the average depth was around twenty five meters or
Speaker 2: eighty feet, and the maximum depth was around forty three
Speaker 2: meters or one forty feet. So it's not something like
Speaker 2: they could just jump and you know, figure things out.
Speaker 2: These guys were trained fishermen, trained in this. They knew
Speaker 2: about the region, they knew about the dangers, they knew
Speaker 2: about everything, and so this was not an.
Speaker 3: Ordinary deal, all right. So now one more point took this.
Speaker 2: Okay, Now understand that the Sea of Galilee or this
Speaker 2: lake sits about two hundred meters above the mean sea level, okay,
Speaker 2: and it is surrounded by hills and mountains. And because
Speaker 2: of this, what used to happened was the lot of
Speaker 2: cold air from above would rush down and collide with
Speaker 2: the warm air from the lake, and this resulted in sudden,
Speaker 2: violent stock. So this was not an exaggeration. This was
Speaker 2: not something like made up. It was not like they
Speaker 2: were just exaggerating the situation. This was a real serious
Speaker 2: problem because of the topography or the geography of the place.
Speaker 2: This was a real serious problem. And so when somebody
Speaker 2: just generalizes and says, come on, what's the big deal,
Speaker 2: It's just a storm in a lake. Why are you
Speaker 2: making a big deal of it? Why can't you just
Speaker 2: come I understand the seriousness of this. This was a
Speaker 2: one to three hour journey depending on this situation. Of course,
Speaker 2: this was like the winds would have already been bad
Speaker 2: and understand that this was already in the evening, because
Speaker 2: one of the translations, I think in Mark chapter four,
Speaker 2: it says by evening they were going, so you know,
Speaker 2: generally water bodies and evenings and nights they're.
Speaker 3: Drift generally rougher.
Speaker 2: And on top of that, there's also one more translation
Speaker 2: not translation sorry, in one of the uh you know,
Speaker 2: in one of the Gospels, it says that once they
Speaker 2: got into the boat, Jesus that sleeping because very soon,
Speaker 2: you know, the storm came. It says in verse thirty
Speaker 2: seven of Mark chapter four, but soon a fear storm came.
Speaker 3: You know. It's not like the storm came after a while.
Speaker 3: Soon the storm came.
Speaker 2: If you see, even in the Book of Matthew, chapter eight,
Speaker 2: they get into the boat, it says in verse twenty three,
Speaker 2: but soon a storm came. It's not something like after
Speaker 2: a while it came. You know, very soon the storm came.
Speaker 2: So think about this situation here, right, they have a
Speaker 2: long journey ahead, and they're in the middle of nowhere,
Speaker 2: and it's in the evening. It's probably very dark, and
Speaker 2: in the midst of this, right, they know the danger
Speaker 2: of the place.
Speaker 3: The storms are very bad.
Speaker 2: Okay, So what I'm trying to say is sometimes in
Speaker 2: life we try to generalize a problem. We say it's
Speaker 2: just it's just, you know, a small thing, Like everybody
Speaker 2: goes through a storm, everybody goes through this trouble, everybody
Speaker 2: goes through some bad breaks, what's the big deal? But here,
Speaker 2: this was a deadly situation. This was not a general
Speaker 2: storm in a lake. I want you guys to understand
Speaker 2: the reality of the situation. This was serious. This was different.
Speaker 2: This was not like a typical storm. This was a
Speaker 2: dangerous storm. This is not like a typical lake. This
Speaker 2: was the Sea of Galery, a very dangerous place to
Speaker 2: be at this moment. So what I'm trying to say
Speaker 2: here is sometimes in life we try to solve a
Speaker 2: problem by just generalizing. Or somebody else solved this problem
Speaker 2: by this method. Somebody went through this breakup, they went
Speaker 2: through some therapy. This helped for them, and it helped them,
Speaker 2: so it should help you. Or you say that you know,
Speaker 2: you went through this financial or lass or something and
Speaker 2: you just, you know, do these ABC steps and it
Speaker 2: should work for you. No, what worked for somebody else
Speaker 2: may not work for you. Because you see, general things
Speaker 2: will not work in this situation. This was a serious thing.
Speaker 2: So when somebody just says, you know what, everybody goes
Speaker 2: through this problem. Everybody goes through you know, the season
Speaker 2: of layoff. Everybody goes through the season of you know,
Speaker 2: singles word waiting for the right person to step into
Speaker 2: your life. Everybody goes through this. Everybody goes through that.
Speaker 2: You can't generalize things, you know why, because what you,
Speaker 2: as an individual may be going through is specific. Everybody
Speaker 2: else may be going through a storm in a lake,
Speaker 2: but they're in a small league. You are going through
Speaker 2: a serious league because this is the sea of gality.
Speaker 2: Everybody else may be going through some sudden storm in life,
Speaker 2: but you are in a fear storm which came out
Speaker 2: of nowhere that you could even prepare for. Are you
Speaker 2: getting what I'm saying? This was a deadly place to be.
Speaker 2: Even professional fishermen found it deadly. Then think about the situation, guys.
Speaker 2: So what I'm trying to help you understand here is
Speaker 2: in life, you know, never think that you know what,
Speaker 2: let's generalize the problem. Okay, everybody else solve this this way,
Speaker 2: or you know what, somebody solve this. So why is
Speaker 2: this person making a big deal. You have no idea
Speaker 2: the pain this person is going through. Recently, when I
Speaker 2: always shared this last year was one of the hardest
Speaker 2: years that I went through. You know a lot of
Speaker 2: bad breaks in terms of you know, a huge financial
Speaker 2: laws and then you know, a job layoff that happened,
Speaker 2: and then you know, an attack on my health and
Speaker 2: all of these things. You know, people would come and
Speaker 2: give me sermons you know, oh you should trust God.
Speaker 2: I mean, like, come on, is it that I don't
Speaker 2: trust Gord? You know? Or you know you should pray
Speaker 2: like this you would get a job in one week.
Speaker 2: I mean, come on, guys, if you were in my situation,
Speaker 2: Like for example, one of the health issues that happened
Speaker 2: was because of you know, the doctor immediance it said,
Speaker 2: this is because of too much of stress on you.
Speaker 2: And people started attacking me saying, if you're a preacher,
Speaker 2: how can you have stress? How you're not trusting God,
Speaker 2: You're not praying hard enough. I mean, come on, if
Speaker 2: you knew what I was going through, if you knew
Speaker 2: the attack after the attack after attack I was going
Speaker 2: through last year like it was one after another attack,
Speaker 2: not not just the job laws, or the or the
Speaker 2: financial laws, or but even the attack from you know,
Speaker 2: close ones who are you know, attacking on you know,
Speaker 2: my stand for the Gospel, stand for the calling, stand
Speaker 2: for the ministry, and all of that.
Speaker 3: It was not easy.
Speaker 2: It's easy to preach to someone when you're not in
Speaker 2: what they're going through.
Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
Speaker 2: That's what I'm trying to tell you. You know, this is
Speaker 2: what I'm trying to tell you. Don't generalize because only
Speaker 2: the person who's in that moment will know the depth
Speaker 2: of what they're going through. Because outside you can just
Speaker 2: think of, you know, do these five steps you should
Speaker 2: solve a problem. It doesn't work that way.
Speaker 3: Guys.
Speaker 2: Certain things like oh, you know what, they're in the lake.
Speaker 2: They let them just come out of the lake, Like
Speaker 2: this is a huge lake. Guys, Oh it's just a storm.
Speaker 2: Let them just be calm in the storm. I mean,
Speaker 2: this is a fierce, deadly storm.
Speaker 3: Guys.
Speaker 2: So try to understand. Don't try to generalize situations. Try
Speaker 2: to understand the of the situation. Try to understand the reality,
Speaker 2: because only then you will be able to understand.
Speaker 3: What somebody else is going through.
Speaker 2: And also you'll be able to understand what you are
Speaker 2: going through and why what somebody else is saying from
Speaker 2: the outside may not work for you because they are
Speaker 2: generalizing things. But you are going through something so much
Speaker 2: more deeper and harder. So I really pray that this message,
Speaker 2: you know, open your eyes to understand the reality, so
Speaker 2: that you know even as we go and delve into
Speaker 2: this passage more in the next coming days, I pray
Speaker 2: that these sermons and this world will bless you, guys,
Speaker 2: because I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. If
Speaker 2: you are going through a storm and no one else
Speaker 2: is I be able to understand, I pray that today
Speaker 2: is going to be the day that somebody is going
Speaker 2: to understand that you know that God understands and I'm
Speaker 2: able to understand what you're going through.
Speaker 3: If you want to reach out and share so that
Speaker 3: you want me.
Speaker 2: To pray for you in some area of your life,
Speaker 2: you can reach out through social media or any other
Speaker 2: means that you are able to find on YouTube and
Speaker 2: all of that.
Speaker 3: Do it. I'm therefore you praying for you, rooting for you.
Speaker 2: Let's you know, across to the other side with the
Speaker 2: grace of God. Emen, God bless you.
