What Does It Mean to Be Filled with the HOLY SPIRIT? John Giftah | Biblical Teaching for Pentecost Sunday

Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for the Soul with John GIFTAP podcast. If you've been checking out our episodes for this week, we're doing a series where we can learn various aspects with regard to the Holy Spirit, because as we're intending her to Pentecost, the day when the Holy Spirit came upon the body of Christ in the Book of Facts. So I want you to understand. One of those aspects that people often ask this question is when you see in the scripture, like Ephesians five, verse eighteen, it says that we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Speaker 2: The question comes, how can I be filled with the Holy Spirit? How do I do this practically? What do I do? How can this become a reality of my life? Now? I want you to just think about this as an example. Right when you take a bottle, for example, this is such a huge wattle. Yes, the thing, this bottle is filled with water right now, When it is filled with water to the brim, there is no room for you to fill anything else in it. You get what I'm saying. It is completely filled with water. And so when it is completely filled with water on all the sides, you can actually see that it is wet, right, because it obviously is in touch with water.

Speaker 2: So anything and everything that water comes in contact with ends up becoming wet. You get what I'm saying. It's completely filled. And then eventually when anything and everything that comes in contact with it, like, for example, if you pour water on me right, for example, I'm not going to do that on screen, but what would happen. I would become wet, right, I'll be completely drenched with water if you had to pour this entire bottle of water on me. You get what I'm saying. So I wanted to understand this important thing here.

Speaker 2: When the Bible says that you and I need to be filled with the Holy Spirit, you need to be in that place like the way a person is drenched with water. When you jump into a pool, you are drenched with water. Everything about you is filled with water. You get what I'm saying. It's the same way you need to be completely filled with the Holy Spirit. You know, if you're seeing Sometimes when you go out, maybe with your group of colleagues in work and things like that, sometimes I've seen the where many of them end up drinking alcoholic drinks.

Speaker 2: Right. What happens is maybe when they take one shot or two shots, they're, like, you know, in the normal way they can be. But when they keep consuming it over and over with more shots and more quantity of alcohol in their drinks, what happens is they come to a place where they're controlled completely by the alcohol. They do not know what they're saying, they don't know what they're doing, and later on they end up regretting, oh my gosh, under this influence of this alcohol, this is how I behave, This is what I did.

Speaker 1: You know.

Speaker 2: That's why the Bible says inefficients don't be drunk, but rather be filled with the Holy Spirit. Because I want you to understand, when you're drunk, you do not know what you're doing, You don't know what you're saying. You end up doing stupid things, you end up getting into trouble. And a lot of times you see when people are dashing on the vehicle, you know, when they meet with accidents because of drunken driving. What have They do not know what they do. They do not know that they were speeding.

Speaker 2: They do not know that they accelerated instead of putting on the brake. So what I wanted to understand is the same way a person can be filled with the wine and the influence of the alcohol on them, you can be filled with the Holy Spirit to a point where everything and everything that you do is controlled by the Holy Spirit. My question is, are you in that place where you're completely drenched in the Holy Spirit like the way I'm giving you the reference of being drenched in water? Can you be in a place where you're completely influenced by the Holy Spirit like the way I give you the example of people being influenced by alcohol.

Speaker 2: See think about this because the Bible says something very very important here because when you look at Romans chapter eight or six, especially if you look at the NLTI version, it says a mind controlled by the flesh leads to sin and dead, but a mind controlled by the Spirit leads to life and peace. So my question is, like the wave, when you're controlled by the flesh, you're controlled by alcohol, you're controlled by something else, what happens. Everything is leading you away from the right way to live.

Speaker 2: Like controlled by the flesh leads you to sin and eventually death. But if you're controlled by the Holy Spirit, your mind is controlled by the Spirit, your heart is controlled by the Holy Spirit, your entire body and everything that you do is controlled by the Holy Spirit. You know what happens. It leads to life and peace. Today, my question is do you have the true life, the Zoe life. Do you have that peace that only Christ can give you to operate in that realm that comes by being filled with the Holy Spirit, when you're controlled by the Holy Spirit, so that your mind is controlled by Him so that you will not go Or is it like I give this analogy with this bottle filled with water.

Speaker 2: If a bottle is filled with water, there's no room for something else you know to be filled same way, when you are completely filled with the Holy Spirit, there's no room for evil spirits to come near you. There's no room for any other negative thing to come near you. So if you're not having peace, you're filled with worry and anxiety, maybe you're not completely filled with the Holy Spirit. You need to be in a place where you're intentionally filling yourself with more of the Holy Spirit. Maybe if there are areas where sin is overtaking you, you're not able to break that addiction.

Speaker 2: Maybe this lack of self control is probably because you are not completely filled with the Holy Spirit to a point where the Holy Spirit is leading you and the fruit of the Spirit, which is self control, comes out through your life. My challenge to you today is this, can you get to that place where you're intentional about being filled with the Holy Spirit? Say Lord, I don't want to be controlled by my own flesh. I don't want to be controlled by my own desires, which sometimes ends up being, you know, things that divert you from what God wants to do over your life.

Speaker 2: I don't want to be controlled by the pleasures of the world. I don't want to be controlled by anything that does not align with your word, your standard, your principles. But I want to be controlled by your spirit. So when you give yourself into his hands and allow him to lead you, guide, you, teach you, mold you. What happens is you will be able to live the life like the Bible says, a mind controlled by the spirit leads to life. You'll be able to live that abundant life, the victorious life, victorious over sin, addiction, curse, condemnation, lack and everything.

Speaker 2: And you will be able to have that peace, to have that right mental space, peace, joy, and you'll be able to live the kind of life that Christ came to give you. So today my challenge is to introspect your life, yourself, how you filled with the Holy Spirit. Now, I just want to close with this. You may ask how can I be filled with the Holy Spirit? Very simple say Holy Spirit, fill me up. Holy Spirit, fill me up. And if you are someone who operates in tongues, with the more you speak in tongues, that's a great way to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Speaker 2: If you want to feed on the Word and learn and grow, that's another great way. The Holy Spirit is going to take control of you, the Word is going to take complete control of your worldview, your thought process. The Holy Spirit will take complete control. So my challenge is in every area, allow the Holy Spirit to control your mind, your heart, your peace. See sometimes people say, like when you watch something, you know, if you're watching a movie or a series. Now, sometimes what happens people are constantly thinking about that, like, oh, I've seen this episode, I can't wait to see what's going to happen in the next episode.

Speaker 2: Or sometimes I've seen people, especially when I was in the university, in the residential university, what happens is I see different kinds of students. And one of the things I can remember was one of my roommates he was so engrossed in some of those video games. He would wake up in the middle of the night thinking about something and you will start setting off his laptop and start playing. You know, there were times like for you know, twelve hours, eighteen hours non stop. He would play thinking about it like he's like, oh, I should do this, I should do that, Like the mind controlled by that video game.

Speaker 2: Same way, if you can be in a place where you can be controlled completely by the Holy Spirit, think about how he's going to lead you. He's going to tell you this is the way you need to go, This is the direction you need to go, This is the move you need to make. This is the person you need to talk to. This is what you need to say to them when you meet, so then your life will be more effective and more powerful. I really recommend you to live that life where you're filled with the Holy Spirit and your life will never be the same ever.
