Why Did JESUS Turn Water Into Wine? (It Wasn’t Life or Death) | John Giftah | Christian Sermon
Tonight's Episode
In John chapter 2, the Bible records the very first miracle performed by JESUS — turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana. What makes this miracle fascinating is that it was not a life-or-death situation.
No one was sick.
No one was dying.
No one needed immediate rescue.
The problem was simple: the wine ran out.
In that culture, running out of wine at a wedding could bring shame and embarrassment to the host family. It could damage their reputation and bring social humiliation.
Yet this was the situation JESUS chose for His first miracle.
This reveals something powerful about the heart of GOD.
Sometimes we think GOD only cares about the “big” problems — life-threatening sickness, danger, or survival. But the first miracle of JESUS shows that GOD also cares about the areas of shame, embarrassment, and societal pressure in our lives.
If something matters to you, it matters to GOD.
In this episode of Fuel for the Soul with John Giftah, discover how JESUS not only performs miracles to save lives but also removes shame and restores dignity.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this solution of the Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta podcast where we're going to look at another aspect from the incident in John chapter two when Jesus turns what it into wine. We've been talking about various aspects that we can inculcate in our life for the couple of episodes, and I really challenge you to go back and check with them. Today, I'm going to talk about one aspect from the same where you may be saying that, yes, God wants to do miracles, God wants to do great things.
Speaker 2: God did this miracle of turning water and wine. And the thing is this, sometimes we have this idea with our own life where we think that, you know what, there are certain miracles that are more important than the others. Now, what do I mean by that? When something is like a life in that situation, Like if somebody is sick and they need a miracle other ways they're going to die, or maybe somebody is in a lot of death and they if they don't clear the debts, you know, they could lose a lot of things, or they could even lose their life in that process, or their house or you know, a lot of people, especially in the recent times, I came to know that even in through the season of layoffs, a lot of people lost their houses because they couldn't pay off the you know, emis and another loan and all of those things.
Speaker 2: So here's the thing, you know, like, there are certain things which are life in that situation, right, but some things may not actually be a life for that situation. And that one of the miracles that Jesus performed, which was not exactly a life for that situation was this when Jesus turning what wine? What do I mean by that here's the thing, right, Like, nobody's going to die if there was no wine, you know what I mean. It's not like, oh my gosh, there's no wine, you know, like the wedding is canceled, you know, like I mean, the wedding can still go on because it's not like you know, the bridegroom passed away or somebody became sick or the you know, the couple had some you know, like problems or that crept up and Jesus had to intervene or you know, like it was not something like it's a life for that, Like you know what I mean, it's like somebody is sick, or they couldn't pay the rent for the place, or you know, or some things like that.
Speaker 1: You know what I.
Speaker 2: Mean, It's not a life for that situation in Jesus turning what a whine. But it was more about you know, the reputation and the embarrassment that's going to be cost because of this. Like people will always remember, oh, you know what, this is the wedding in which the wind ran out because it was such a significant thing culturally back in the day, right, you know, I still remember going to somebody's wedding and the rain was so bad. And later somebody was referencing that wedding and said, oh, that was the wedding where the rain was so bad.
Speaker 2: You know what I mean, Like, you get what I'm saying. It's kind of like a situation where like, you know, the sense of embarrassment or the sense of a talking point that people have with regard to that particular case. So it was more to do with embarrassment and societal expectation rather than a life of that situation. You know, sometimes we think that God casts more about the life of that situation. Miracles of people getting healed or you know, somebody like raised Lazarus being raised back to life, or feeding of the five thousands so that people will have money or foods and strength so that they will be able to go back to their homes.
Speaker 2: You know, it was a life for that situation again, or Jesus coming the storm again is a life for that situation. But this was nothing to do with the life of that situation. This was everything to do with this societial expectations and embarrassment for the couple and the family at large. Right. But here's the thing in this miracle. You see that Jesus cares about these embarrassing situations as much as he cares about life for the situations he shows up in embarrassment or situations that can lead to shame as much as he can show up in seasons or situations that can lead to you know, pain and death.
Speaker 2: So I want you to understand that God cares about those areas of life which feel like, oh, you know what people will say, Oh, I know you. For example, okay, you are in a situation where you're saying, I'm not having a job. Okay. For example, like maybe for somebody it may be in a situation of like I'm not able to pay my bills. It's a life in that situation. But for somebody else, they are able to sustain from now till they get another job. So right now, it's more to do with shame, like, oh, what will people think if I don't have a job, or let's say, for example, in ministry, right sometimes for me, I'll look back and you know, especially like I'm doing what I love to do, like you know, preaching through these podcasts, YouTube channel television, ministry, traveling and preaching all of these things.
Speaker 2: But in terms of numbers, especially on YouTube. I've been praying for a long time that God will bring a growth. And here's the thing. It's not a life for the situation. I'm not going to die if I don't get views, but it's more to do it like oh, you know, like people don't take you seriously if you don't have numbers, you know what I mean. It's like, so what I'm trying to say is God cares about those details as well that lead to embarrassment and shame. God cares about that. Sometimes we try to hide it and act super spiritual, like you know what, there are people who are in poverty and you're worrying about views, or there are people who are in you know, much difficult situations and you're you're worrying about not getting a job, or there are people who are going through divorce and you're worrying about still not getting married, you know, like you know what I mean, Like there's always going to be somebody who's going to say, you know what, like, come on, there are greater things that people are dealing with.
Speaker 2: Create a life of the situations people are dealing with, like harassment or you know, this human trafficking that's happening in some parts of the world, or even in terms of greater things, like people are you know that life is at stake and all of these things, and you're worried about these things, or it's it's you know, like people think that God doesn't care or you should not care. No, God cares about even those things that can lead to shame and embarrassment. God cares about it, and God wants to do something about it in your life.
Speaker 2: So I want you to commit that into into the hands of God and say, God, you know what, I feel embarrassed, Like, you know what, I'm still not having a job. I feel embarrassed that though I've been putting so much of effort into this, I'm not seeing the fruit that I should see. I feel embarrassed and shameful that I'm not getting the kind of you know, like maybe if you're a single for a long time and you're don't get getting married and people are like, oh, there's something wrong with you. That's not you're not getting married.
Speaker 2: No, like you commit that pain to God. God, I feel embarrassed and shameful. Or you're not getting a child. God, it's not like you're want to die if you don't get a child. You know what I mean. It's not a life for that situation. But God placed the desire in you. God has put that heart you know, like that that you know like you you really wish to have a child. Commit that to God and say, God, I feel embarrassed when I look at other people who are younger to me getting children, and here I am struggling to not even get wanted, or struggling to even get married in the first place.
Speaker 2: So commit that into God's sense today. I really challenge you to do that, because God cares about the things that you care about, even the things that feel like, oh they're just shame or embarrassment and they have nothing to do with life for their situations. No, because for God, he cares about your heart. He cares about those details as well as much as He cares about the life of these situations. Emmen, share this with someone and encourage him today. God bless you.
