Why Lot Entertained Angels WITHOUT Knowing It 😱🔥 Power of Hospitality | John Giftah | Biblical Teaching
Tonight's Episode
"We live in a culture where everything is about us... but Lot went out of his way for people he didn't even know." — John GiftahIn Part 2 of our series on the life of Lot, we look at a side of Lot often overlooked: his radical hospitality. In a world dominated by "selfie culture" and the "what's in it for me" mindset, Lot’s actions in Genesis 19 challenge us to go the extra mile—even when there’s no immediate benefit.
Did you know that Lot entertained angels without even realizing it? Today, we explore why having a "good heart" and being sensitive to the needs of others is a non-negotiable for every believer.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for
Speaker 2: the Soul with John Gifta podcast. We are looking at
Speaker 2: various lessons this week from the life of Lots, predominantly
Speaker 2: around Genesis chapter nineteen. One of the things I want
Speaker 2: to talk about is that that evening when the two
Speaker 2: angels came and Lot is sitting by the entrance of
Speaker 2: this city of Sodom, and he sees the two angels
Speaker 2: and he gets up to meet them. Understand something. He
Speaker 2: doesn't know that they are angels. He doesn't know that
Speaker 2: they are sent by God. He doesn't know anything. Okay.
Speaker 2: He then welcomed them about with his face to the ground,
Speaker 2: and he said, come to my house to wash your
Speaker 2: feet and be my guests for the night. Then you
Speaker 2: can get up in the morning and be on your
Speaker 2: way again. Okay. So look at one of the qualities
Speaker 2: of Lot that we can understand here is that he
Speaker 2: doesn't even know who these two men are. He doesn't
Speaker 2: know who they are because the angels didn't come with
Speaker 2: some wings and all of that, like the angels came
Speaker 2: like ordinary men. So they didn't realize or Lot didn't
Speaker 2: realize or his family didn't realize that these men were
Speaker 2: actually angels. He just thought it was just some random men.
Speaker 2: And he says, hey, guys, come, come, come, come to
Speaker 2: my home be my guest. And the two men actually say, well,
Speaker 2: we'll just spend the night out here in the city
Speaker 2: square okay. But Lot insisted, saying, hey, no, you have
Speaker 2: to come, and then they went with him. Now I
Speaker 2: want you to understand it, goes on to say, Lot
Speaker 2: prepared a feast for them. Okay. He prepares a feast
Speaker 2: for them, complete with fresh bread made without east, and
Speaker 2: they ate. Okay. Now I wanted to think about something
Speaker 2: very important. Here he went to prepare a feast for
Speaker 2: people he did not even know. Now, I want you
Speaker 2: to think about this, right, we live in a culture
Speaker 2: where everybody's living for themselves. What's in it for me?
Speaker 2: It's all about me. What am I going to get
Speaker 2: in this? I want this, I want that. I want
Speaker 2: to see growth, I want to see my money, I
Speaker 2: want to see this. It's always been like all about
Speaker 2: the SELFI culture image of myself. It's all about what
Speaker 2: I can get, what can I benefit out of this?
Speaker 2: So we are living in a culture where everything is
Speaker 2: about us, revolves around us. But you see here we
Speaker 2: look at Lot, who's going out of the way to
Speaker 2: prepare a fees, out of the way to insist. So
Speaker 2: even when the men say no, we'll stay here, Lot
Speaker 2: could have just said, okay, fine, I did my part
Speaker 2: of asking. He could have said that, but he insisted, saying,
Speaker 2: ain't guys know you come home? Come home. Look look
Speaker 2: at Lord's gift of hospitality, right, Like, think about this
Speaker 2: like he was a very hospitable person even though he
Speaker 2: was staying in a very wicked place. My question to
Speaker 2: you today is this, how hospitable are you? Like? Are
Speaker 2: you going the extra mile for people who do you
Speaker 2: don't even know who they are. Like Lot did not
Speaker 2: know these were angels who are sent by God to
Speaker 2: actually protect or save him. He had no idea.
Speaker 1: You know.
Speaker 2: The scripture talks about how people have actually encountered angels
Speaker 2: without even knowing that they were angels. So imagine in
Speaker 2: your life, like I always say this, Like God, what
Speaker 2: if I actually encountered angels. I didn't even know I
Speaker 2: was encountering angels in the sense that sometimes you know,
Speaker 2: like we are so caught up with like oh, I
Speaker 2: have to do this, I have to do that, I
Speaker 2: have to go here, I have to finish this, I
Speaker 2: have to see this growth. I have to see my work,
Speaker 2: my ministry, the podcast, the various aspects of my life.
Speaker 2: But I always go back to God. In the all
Speaker 2: of the hustle and hustle of life. Am I paying
Speaker 2: attention to a guest who's coming? Or maybe in little sense,
Speaker 2: it could may not be a guest like how Lot
Speaker 2: entertained these angels. It could be maybe somebody in need,
Speaker 2: or it could be somebody for whom you need to
Speaker 2: just send an encouraging word. It could be somebody for
Speaker 2: whom you need to just maybe send out some money
Speaker 2: because you know that it's struggling. Maybe it could be
Speaker 2: somebody who just needs a smile and encouragement. See think
Speaker 2: about this. We live in a time where it's all
Speaker 2: about lust, what can I get, what can I benefit?
Speaker 2: But when we look at Lot, one of the things
Speaker 2: we see from Lord's story is that even though he
Speaker 2: doesn't know that he's going to get any benefit out
Speaker 2: of this, he went out of the way to prepare
Speaker 2: a meal. He went out of the way to persevere
Speaker 2: and say, hey, guys, come home. He insisted, He persisted
Speaker 2: and said come home, because one more thing, he knew
Speaker 2: about the place. He knew how wicked the place was,
Speaker 2: and how if these men stayed in the city square,
Speaker 2: the wicked men would come and attack them, and you
Speaker 2: know all the negative things that can happen. So he
Speaker 2: knew about the place, so he didn't want them to
Speaker 2: go through that. He had a good heart. He didn't
Speaker 2: live with this attitude of indifference, like why should I
Speaker 2: be bothered? Man if something happens to them, if it
Speaker 2: happens to them, is I'm no and I'm not responsible.
Speaker 2: Lot could have lived like that, A lot of people
Speaker 2: live like that today. Why should I bother about this
Speaker 2: person they're suffering. Let them suffer if they came in,
Speaker 2: who asked them to come here? It's my life. I
Speaker 2: don't have to take unnecessary trouble. Maybe some family members
Speaker 2: of Lot could have said, hey, why are you bringing
Speaker 2: these men and men? You know those men will come
Speaker 2: and attack and all of that you will get into
Speaker 2: more trouble. Why do you want unnecessary trouble? Lot could
Speaker 2: have faced all these things. See, we read these stories
Speaker 2: like a story book, thinking like a lot in invited
Speaker 2: and the guests came. But think about the possibilities, like
Speaker 2: all the conversations that could have happened, all the thought
Speaker 2: processes he had to deal with, like why should I
Speaker 2: get into unnecessary trouble because later the wicked men in
Speaker 2: the city come and attack him. All of these things
Speaker 2: happen because he's entertaining these angels, so he goes through
Speaker 2: all of this for people he doesn't even know. Think
Speaker 2: about this. My question is when we can learn from
Speaker 2: a Lot that if he was going the extra mile
Speaker 2: for two people he doesn't even know, how much more
Speaker 2: you and I can go the extra mile for the
Speaker 2: people got placed in our life that we know need
Speaker 2: our encouragement, that we know need our support, that we
Speaker 2: know or need our maybe sometimes financial support or maybe
Speaker 2: just a smile, whatever it is, be there for people,
Speaker 2: show that hospitality. I pray that God will fill you
Speaker 2: with that gift of being there for people and standing
Speaker 2: by and being a person who's showing that hospitality. I
Speaker 2: really challenge you to leave a comment and share this
Speaker 2: with someone and never see you back next time. God
Speaker 2: bless you.
