Why Reading the Bible Isn't Changing Your Life (And How to Change That) | John Giftah | Biblical Teaching
Tonight's Episode
Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Giftah. In this powerful episode from the Word of GOD series, we explore a vital distinction many believers overlook: the difference between the written Word (Logos) and the spoken, living, revealed Word (Rhema). While countless Christians read, study, and memorize Scripture, many still struggle to experience true spiritual transformation and victory. Using Jesus’ temptation in Matthew 4 as a key example, John Giftah unpacks how Jesus responded to Satan by receiving a living word from GOD rather than just quoting Scripture.
This teaching unveils why simply knowing Bible verses is not enough—true spiritual power comes from the HOLY SPIRIT bringing Scripture alive in our hearts as a life-giving word. Discover how moving beyond information to revelation enables transformation, deeper hearing of GOD’s voice, and victorious Christian living.
If you want to experience the dynamic life of GOD’s Word in a fresh, powerful way, this episode offers biblical insight and practical encouragement to help you hear and apply GOD’s Rhema Word daily.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for
Speaker 2: the Soul with John gifter podcast. Yesterday I was talking
Speaker 2: to you on an important aspect about how the Word
Speaker 2: of God should be the standard of our life. Right
Speaker 2: you are living in a time and age where the
Speaker 2: there's so many things that are trying to take you aside,
Speaker 2: drive you away from God, drive you away from the
Speaker 2: things of the Lord, or make you to compromise, or
Speaker 2: maybe you can be deceived very easily in this world,
Speaker 2: which makes you believe that even something that is sin
Speaker 2: according to God's word can be made to think that
Speaker 2: it's perfectly fine and it's a good thing, and something
Speaker 2: that is an abomination in God's side can actually be
Speaker 2: something that the world celebrates. And we need to be
Speaker 2: cautious of all of those things. So I want you
Speaker 2: to understand there's an important aspect where a lot of
Speaker 2: people fail to understand this that if you need to
Speaker 2: be victorious, yes, victory comes from God's word. We need
Speaker 2: to feed on the word. We need to be meditating
Speaker 2: on the word. I'll talk more on that in the
Speaker 2: days to come, but one of the things I wanted
Speaker 2: to understand is people don't understand these basic things now,
Speaker 2: for example, when you look at Luke Forward. Okay, there's
Speaker 2: the reason why I want to specifically share this with
Speaker 2: you guys, because a lot of times we read it
Speaker 2: in the English translation. This is a moment when Jesus
Speaker 2: is being tempted by the devil. Right, so we understand
Speaker 2: this incident where the devil comes to him and says,
Speaker 2: if you are the son of God, you have to
Speaker 2: just turn these stones into bread and you will be
Speaker 2: able to eat, because he knows Jesus was hungry, he
Speaker 2: had a physical need. And Jesus responds to him saying,
Speaker 2: it is written that man should not live by bread alone. Right.
Speaker 2: And the second time again the enemy gives him another idea,
Speaker 2: and then Jesus responds to him again saying, for it
Speaker 2: is written, this is what the word says. So we
Speaker 2: look at it and says Jesus was able to go
Speaker 2: against the attack of the enemy or the temptation by
Speaker 2: quoting the scripture. That's how we look at it, right.
Speaker 2: But I wanted to understand something here. When you look
Speaker 2: at the aspect of the Word of God, there are
Speaker 2: two aspects to this. Right. Many people don't realize this
Speaker 2: because they read it only in English when they use
Speaker 2: the word word the word of God. But in Greece,
Speaker 2: in which the New Testament was predominantly written, especially when
Speaker 2: you look at these scriptures, you have to understand that
Speaker 2: the word word in itself are of two words okay,
Speaker 2: and one is called logos okay, which is basically the
Speaker 2: ratted word of God, and the other is called gramma,
Speaker 2: which is the spoken word of God. Okay. Now listen
Speaker 2: to this cafelee. So the first time, when Jesus was
Speaker 2: responding to Satan and saying, listen, mansion by bread alone,
Speaker 2: he uses the word it has been written. And if
Speaker 2: I were to try to read the Greek word for it,
Speaker 2: it is something like geg grap the gek grap tie. Okay,
Speaker 2: sorry if I'm pronouncing it wrongly, I'm bad in the
Speaker 2: pronunciation of these languages. But okay, but I want you
Speaker 2: to understand the significance of this. Right, he was using
Speaker 2: the word it has been written. Right when he uses that,
Speaker 2: it is basically geg grap thie. Okay. So the third time,
Speaker 2: when Jesus was tempted by the enemy, right, that time,
Speaker 2: he doesn't say the same word. He uses another word,
Speaker 2: which is rataigh okay, pronounced something like this, and what
Speaker 2: it means is it has been said. It has been said.
Speaker 2: So I want you to pay attention to this. Right
Speaker 2: in the same passage when we read in English, he
Speaker 2: just think that, Oh, Jesus just said it is written.
Speaker 2: It is written. It is written three times, but actually
Speaker 2: speaking if you see through the lines of the original translation.
Speaker 2: In the first two instances, Jesus says it has been written.
Speaker 2: He's quoting scripture. It is written. Man should not live
Speaker 2: by bread alone. It is written. So he's quoting scripture.
Speaker 2: But here's the thing I want you to understand. In
Speaker 2: this context, Jesus is not literally quoting scripture. Because the
Speaker 2: enemy starts quoting scripture, he says, oh, why don't you
Speaker 2: just throw yourself off, because it is written. Even the
Speaker 2: enemy uses the same word, and he's saying that he
Speaker 2: will make his angels to charge over you. So it
Speaker 2: is written. The enemy uses the word it is written,
Speaker 2: for which Jesus replies, saying, for it has been said,
Speaker 2: er thigh. Okay, And I understand even when Jesus said,
Speaker 2: for manchellon libery bread alone. But by every word that
Speaker 2: proceeded from the mouth of God, the word word there
Speaker 2: is again not logos, not the quoted scripture, the written word,
Speaker 2: but it is the Rema word. A lot of people
Speaker 2: today are trying to fight the schemes of the enemy,
Speaker 2: are trying to fight temptation, are trying to fight the
Speaker 2: plans of the devil, are trying to deceive them or
Speaker 2: to cause them to deviate from the standard of God's word,
Speaker 2: and all of those things. By just quoting scripture, they
Speaker 2: think like, oh, I just have to read the Bible,
Speaker 2: I just have to quote See, there is power in
Speaker 2: the word, no doubt about it. But the truth of
Speaker 2: the matter is the real power is not in just
Speaker 2: you memorizing or in you just quoting. Like how you
Speaker 2: know certain people quote certain dialogues or in terms of
Speaker 2: like mantras, you would have seen them. They just, you know,
Speaker 2: like they're just chanting mantras and they're expecting to see
Speaker 2: a result like that. A lot of people are chanting
Speaker 2: the word to see some results. But here's the thing
Speaker 2: I wanted to understand. Every time Jesus was quoting scripture,
Speaker 2: the devil came back. But the third time Jesus did
Speaker 2: not quote a scripture, he said, for it is said
Speaker 2: he was referring to the spoken word, But the minute
Speaker 2: he referred to the spoken word, the devil left him.
Speaker 2: This is an important thing I wanted to understand why
Speaker 2: many Christians are actually living a defeated Christian life despite
Speaker 2: reading the Bible. Here's the reason they're relying on just
Speaker 2: the logos word instead of relying on the Rama word.
Speaker 2: Not expect to see victory in your life if you're
Speaker 2: only blindly reading the written word without allowing the Holy
Speaker 2: Spirit to speak to you through that word and bring
Speaker 2: forth the rama spoken word, which will transform you. See
Speaker 2: the written word will give you information, but only the
Speaker 2: spoken word, the rama word, will lead to your transformation. Today,
Speaker 2: my challenge is, don't blindly read the word, don't just
Speaker 2: blindly quote scriptures. Don't just keep chanting it. Like how
Speaker 2: people chant things. They don't even know what they're chanting.
Speaker 2: They're thinking that there's power in they're chanting. No, No,
Speaker 2: quoting scripture will not help you. Quoting scripture will not
Speaker 2: help you in that. See, there's a place for declaration,
Speaker 2: and you know, declaring the word, that's another thing altogether. Okay,
Speaker 2: I'm not going against that, but I'm talking with people
Speaker 2: who are thinking that, you know what, just reading the Bible,
Speaker 2: just quoting or just term you know, referencing, will have
Speaker 2: the power. No, the power is not just in doing
Speaker 2: the written word, which if you are not allowing that
Speaker 2: written word to actually get into you and bringing forth
Speaker 2: the rama word out of you, because only that will
Speaker 2: change you. Because so many times I've seen this, a
Speaker 2: lot of people just or take some scripture out, they
Speaker 2: just take something here and then they're like, oh what,
Speaker 2: you know what, God is not speaking to me? You know,
Speaker 2: sometimes you keep reading the word and nothing gets into
Speaker 2: your brain. Maybe you're just reading for information. If you
Speaker 2: really want to see a transformation when you take the word,
Speaker 2: say God, I don't want just information. I don't want
Speaker 2: just mere knowledge. I don't want to just come off
Speaker 2: and say my checklist for the day is done by
Speaker 2: me thinking the word, reading the world, reading some passage
Speaker 2: which I forget in the next ten minutes.
Speaker 1: I don't want that.
Speaker 2: Get to that place where you say, Lord, Holy Spirit,
Speaker 2: they be in involved in me as I read the word,
Speaker 2: and speak to me through this word. Speak to me
Speaker 2: through this word, and then you will see the transformation.
Speaker 2: Then you will see the power of God coming through
Speaker 2: that word. That's what you see in the life of
Speaker 2: Jesus when he walked on earth as a man, when
Speaker 2: he just quoted the scripture, quoted the written word, the
Speaker 2: enemy came back. But the minute he quoted this spoken
Speaker 2: word saying it has been said, immediately there was a change.
Speaker 2: The enemy left him. So today my challenge is, if
Speaker 2: you want to see victory over your life, victory over
Speaker 2: your finance, victory over the scheme of the enemy trying
Speaker 2: to take you away from the plan of God, over
Speaker 2: your life, trying to steal you, steal His purpose, over
Speaker 2: your life, or maybe he's trying to take away your
Speaker 2: loud ones away from him. Whatever be it, I challenge
Speaker 2: you to get to that place where you don't just
Speaker 2: sit on the logos. It's time for you to allow
Speaker 2: the Holy Spirit to breed through the logos and give
Speaker 2: you the Ramma word, which will sustain you because man
Speaker 2: shall not live by bread alone, but by every Gramma
Speaker 2: word that proceeded from the mouth of God. I hope
Speaker 2: this was a blessing to you, and I just want
Speaker 2: to say a word of prayer over you that as
Speaker 2: you read the word, as you feed on God's word,
Speaker 2: It's all going to be this information for you, but
Speaker 2: it will be something that will transform you, that will
Speaker 2: change the trajectory of your life and each one of
Speaker 2: you as you watch and listen every time you read
Speaker 2: the word, the Tramma word will come and fill you
Speaker 2: and will change you for the better. In Jesus name,
Speaker 2: I pray. I challenge you to leave a comment if
Speaker 2: you're checking this out on YouTube or Facebook and share
