Why Reading the Bible Isn't Changing Your Life (And How to Change That) | John Giftah | Biblical Teaching
Tonight's Episode
Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Giftah. In this powerful episode from the Word of GOD series, we explore a vital distinction many believers overlook: the difference between the written Word (Logos) and the spoken, living, revealed Word (Rhema). While countless Christians read, study, and memorize Scripture, many still struggle to experience true spiritual transformation and victory. Using Jesus’ temptation in Matthew 4 as a key example, John Giftah unpacks how Jesus responded to Satan by receiving a living word from GOD rather than just quoting Scripture.
This teaching unveils why simply knowing Bible verses is not enough—true spiritual power comes from the HOLY SPIRIT bringing Scripture alive in our hearts as a life-giving word. Discover how moving beyond information to revelation enables transformation, deeper hearing of GOD’s voice, and victorious Christian living.
If you want to experience the dynamic life of GOD’s Word in a fresh, powerful way, this episode offers biblical insight and practical encouragement to help you hear and apply GOD’s Rhema Word daily.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for the Soul with John gifter podcast. Yesterday I was talking to you on an important aspect about how the Word of God should be the standard of our life. Right you are living in a time and age where the there's so many things that are trying to take you aside, drive you away from God, drive you away from the things of the Lord, or make you to compromise, or maybe you can be deceived very easily in this world, which makes you believe that even something that is sin according to God's word can be made to think that it's perfectly fine and it's a good thing, and something that is an abomination in God's side can actually be something that the world celebrates.
Speaker 2: And we need to be cautious of all of those things. So I want you to understand there's an important aspect where a lot of people fail to understand this that if you need to be victorious, yes, victory comes from God's word. We need to feed on the word. We need to be meditating on the word. I'll talk more on that in the days to come, but one of the things I wanted to understand is people don't understand these basic things now, for example, when you look at Luke Forward. Okay, there's the reason why I want to specifically share this with you guys, because a lot of times we read it in the English translation.
Speaker 2: This is a moment when Jesus is being tempted by the devil. Right, so we understand this incident where the devil comes to him and says, if you are the son of God, you have to just turn these stones into bread and you will be able to eat, because he knows Jesus was hungry, he had a physical need. And Jesus responds to him saying, it is written that man should not live by bread alone. Right. And the second time again the enemy gives him another idea, and then Jesus responds to him again saying, for it is written, this is what the word says.
Speaker 2: So we look at it and says Jesus was able to go against the attack of the enemy or the temptation by quoting the scripture. That's how we look at it, right. But I wanted to understand something here. When you look at the aspect of the Word of God, there are two aspects to this. Right. Many people don't realize this because they read it only in English when they use the word word the word of God. But in Greece, in which the New Testament was predominantly written, especially when you look at these scriptures, you have to understand that the word word in itself are of two words okay, and one is called logos okay, which is basically the ratted word of God, and the other is called gramma, which is the spoken word of God.
Speaker 2: Okay. Now listen to this cafelee. So the first time, when Jesus was responding to Satan and saying, listen, mansion by bread alone, he uses the word it has been written. And if I were to try to read the Greek word for it, it is something like geg grap the gek grap tie. Okay, sorry if I'm pronouncing it wrongly, I'm bad in the pronunciation of these languages. But okay, but I want you to understand the significance of this. Right, he was using the word it has been written. Right when he uses that, it is basically geg grap thie.
Speaker 2: Okay. So the third time, when Jesus was tempted by the enemy, right, that time, he doesn't say the same word. He uses another word, which is rataigh okay, pronounced something like this, and what it means is it has been said. It has been said. So I want you to pay attention to this. Right in the same passage when we read in English, he just think that, Oh, Jesus just said it is written. It is written. It is written three times, but actually speaking if you see through the lines of the original translation.
Speaker 2: In the first two instances, Jesus says it has been written. He's quoting scripture. It is written. Man should not live by bread alone. It is written. So he's quoting scripture. But here's the thing I want you to understand. In this context, Jesus is not literally quoting scripture. Because the enemy starts quoting scripture, he says, oh, why don't you just throw yourself off, because it is written. Even the enemy uses the same word, and he's saying that he will make his angels to charge over you.
Speaker 2: So it is written. The enemy uses the word it is written, for which Jesus replies, saying, for it has been said,
Speaker 2: er thigh. Okay, And I understand even when Jesus said, for manchellon libery bread alone. But by every word that proceeded from the mouth of God, the word word there is again not logos, not the quoted scripture, the written word, but it is the Rema word. A lot of people today are trying to fight the schemes of the enemy, are trying to fight temptation, are trying to fight the plans of the devil, are trying to deceive them or to cause them to deviate from the standard of God's word, and all of those things.
Speaker 2: By just quoting scripture, they think like, oh, I just have to read the Bible, I just have to quote See, there is power in the word, no doubt about it. But the truth of the matter is the real power is not in just you memorizing or in you just quoting. Like how you know certain people quote certain dialogues or in terms of like mantras, you would have seen them. They just, you know, like they're just chanting mantras and they're expecting to see a result like that. A lot of people are chanting the word to see some results.
Speaker 2: But here's the thing I wanted to understand. Every time Jesus was quoting scripture, the devil came back. But the third time Jesus did not quote a scripture, he said, for it is said he was referring to the spoken word, But the minute he referred to the spoken word, the devil left him. This is an important thing I wanted to understand why many Christians are actually living a defeated Christian life despite reading the Bible. Here's the reason they're relying on just the logos word instead of relying on the Rama word.
Speaker 2: Not expect to see victory in your life if you're only blindly reading the written word without allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you through that word and bring forth the rama spoken word, which will transform you. See the written word will give you information, but only the spoken word, the rama word, will lead to your transformation. Today, my challenge is, don't blindly read the word, don't just blindly quote scriptures. Don't just keep chanting it. Like how people chant things. They don't even know what they're chanting.
Speaker 2: They're thinking that there's power in they're chanting. No, No, quoting scripture will not help you. Quoting scripture will not help you in that. See, there's a place for declaration, and you know, declaring the word, that's another thing altogether. Okay, I'm not going against that, but I'm talking with people who are thinking that, you know what, just reading the Bible, just quoting or just term you know, referencing, will have the power. No, the power is not just in doing the written word, which if you are not allowing that written word to actually get into you and bringing forth the rama word out of you, because only that will change you.
Speaker 2: Because so many times I've seen this, a lot of people just or take some scripture out, they just take something here and then they're like, oh what, you know what, God is not speaking to me? You know, sometimes you keep reading the word and nothing gets into your brain. Maybe you're just reading for information. If you really want to see a transformation when you take the word, say God, I don't want just information. I don't want just mere knowledge. I don't want to just come off and say my checklist for the day is done by me thinking the word, reading the world, reading some passage which I forget in the next ten minutes.
Speaker 1: I don't want that.
Speaker 2: Get to that place where you say, Lord, Holy Spirit, they be in involved in me as I read the word, and speak to me through this word. Speak to me through this word, and then you will see the transformation. Then you will see the power of God coming through that word. That's what you see in the life of Jesus when he walked on earth as a man, when he just quoted the scripture, quoted the written word, the enemy came back. But the minute he quoted this spoken word saying it has been said, immediately there was a change.
Speaker 2: The enemy left him. So today my challenge is, if you want to see victory over your life, victory over your finance, victory over the scheme of the enemy trying to take you away from the plan of God, over your life, trying to steal you, steal His purpose, over your life, or maybe he's trying to take away your loud ones away from him. Whatever be it, I challenge you to get to that place where you don't just sit on the logos. It's time for you to allow the Holy Spirit to breed through the logos and give you the Ramma word, which will sustain you because man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Gramma word that proceeded from the mouth of God.
Speaker 2: I hope this was a blessing to you, and I just want to say a word of prayer over you that as you read the word, as you feed on God's word, It's all going to be this information for you, but it will be something that will transform you, that will change the trajectory of your life and each one of you as you watch and listen every time you read the word, the Tramma word will come and fill you and will change you for the better. In Jesus name, I pray. I challenge you to leave a comment if you're checking this out on YouTube or Facebook and share this with someone who needs to hear.
